"I'm a team player"

Oliver Glasner was officially unveiled as VfL's new head coach on Friday.

The long wait is almost over, with the VfL Wolfsburg squad set to gather for pre-season training on Sunday 30 June at 10am to begin preparations for the upcoming 2019/20 campaign. Before then, however, Oliver Glasner was officially presented to the media as the club's new head coach at a press conference, where the 44-year-old Austrian discussed…

…looking forward to his role at VfL: "I'm happy to finally be in Wolfsburg. I'd like to say a big thank you for the very positive reception I've had here. I'd also like to take this opportunity to congratulate VfL and in particular the team and Bruno Labbadia's coaching staff for their success last season. It's great for the Wolves to be playing in European competition again."

…his playing philosophy: "We want to play a very attractive style of football. When we have the ball we want to get to the opposition's goal as fast as possible, and when we're not in possession we want to win it back as quickly as possible. We'll use the time we have in our numerous training sessions and friendly matches to help the players take that on board."

…togetherness: "We took down a partition wall in the office so that we're now all sitting together in one room and have short communication channels. I'm very much a team player and I'm convinced that the only way to be successful is by working together."

…the squad: "We've had regular in-depth discussions about the squad. It was already very good and we had the same opinion about where to make tweaks or add some qualities that we're looking for. We've recruited good players with strong characters. That's something that was a feature of the side last term: they always gave it their all until the very end, which is why their physical performance data was among the best there was. We want to continue defining ourselves by our character and mentality and we're very happy that the squad is ready before we even get started."

…the start of pre-season training on Sunday: "I've got withdrawal symptoms as it's the fifth week without football for me. Whenever I look out at the training pitch or walk over there then I want to lace my boots up and get the boys out there. We've got perfect conditions."
