Apparently, hittin' up new jazz joints is a thing I now do whenever I visit Shanghai, as I have now gone to two in the past two weeks.

Jazz at Lincoln Center, Shanghai, did not disappoint, the class and elegance you would expect from a Jazz Club. Perfect timing allowed me to buy a ticket (which included a drink) and find myself what turned out to be a great seat. I got there early because that's how Virgos do, but suite yourself.

I saw a one-night engagement of Elsa & The Fungs, who played for about two hours, including a short intermission. They were tight and on point, as was the venue, a perfect match, if only for a night.

I'd defiantly come back, but that might be against the rules, as I will try not to repeat, but based on my experience tonight, I will certainly keep an eye on their calendar of shows...

Cold, characterless shopping centre show. Slow and I mean very slow service, entered at 920 still no drink has arrived by 10pm. Even worse no food service. Left by 1015 to go to a real bar.

A classy place with cosy dining tables enabling to enjoy the jazz mood and each and drink - We went in couple, ordered a bottle of sparkling rosé, salad, ham platter, french fries. Here the audience is focused on listening, like classical music. And we liked it very much.

5 of us went to the performance last night and all of us are from the hospitality industry and have been in China for many years. In all of those years u dont know if we have experienced a worse approach and style from thr management of a venue. After twice asking the manager to help the one bar tender/waiter that had to serve the whole room on his own while the manager and 3 other staff sat in the outside bar chatting and eventually getting 2 beers and 2 gins though without tonic after 45 minutes. When asking for the bill the manager he then started to accuse us of insulting the staff and arguing with us. The bill still didnt come and he seemed like he wanted to contunue preaching. Twice then when we were leaving he was talking about us to other customers. For such a high profile venue with great performances there is obviously a reason why on a friday night they have only 30 customers...... go for the music but dont trust them for a good night out

My friend and I saw a performance over the Qingming weekend; the quality was excellent overall, and very authentic. The performers were obviously experience and knew how to excite the crowd. The food/snacks were also enjoyable.

If you are looking for a unique experience in Shanghai I highly recommend a night out for jazz. With the groups changing every 2-3 weeks, Walter Blanding (JLC’s Ambassador of Jazz) and his friends will not disappoint.

A cozy place in Shanghai for jazz lovers, where performers from the Lincoln Center (New York), who become residents in Shanghai for a 2-3 week time, transport for an evening. The space, located on Nanjing road at a 2 minutes walk from the Bund, is small enough to feel intimacy with the performers and the acoustics are great. Music usually starts at 7:30 pm and I think there is another round at 9:30 pm.

You can sip great cocktails or a glass of Champagne to enjoy it even more. You can also have your dinner during the performance thanks to the next door Light & Salt restaurant. The service is very attentive and the food is good, but mind the portions are quite small.

Overall, it’s an excellent choice for a relaxing evening with authentic jazz performances, whether you are alone, with friends or with your date!

I was on a business trip and made a special effort to make it into Shanghai as I had heard about the opening of this venue. Based on respect for Wynton Marsalis' reputation and his support team, I had high expectations. It was a delightful evening : it's a fair sized well appointed room with good acoustics. The staff was attentive and informed without fussing. After a pair of warm up opening songs, the jazz percussion performance took of and delivered a world class evening. If you're looking for an elegant evening enjoying premium jazz this venue delivers in spades.

I went to watch the Andrew Latona Trio featuring Lena Seikaly. I enjoyed their performance immensely! Location is perfect and the venue is pristine. I will definitely make a point of attending more performances.

A very cosy Jazz club. Less than two dozen tables. There is a music fee and reasonably priced drinks and finger food/light snacks.
The real treat was the show which features the French Cyrille Aimee and her band. A great show and very good acoustics.
Will come back again next year.
