Background

Video Yesteryear was a home video distributor based in Sandy Hook, Connecticut. It was known for releasing vintage & public domain films. The label is owned by Video Images (formerly Reel Images).

Logo (1978-1998?)

Visuals:

  • 1978-1981: The text "REEL IMAGES PRESENTS" with the first row in a weird, rounded typeface in a big size, and the second row in the Futura typeface, slightly small. Below it is "A VIDEO YESTERYEAR RECORDING" in the Broadway Engraved typeface, followed with the copyright stamp underneath.
  • 1981-1983: The text "REEL IMAGES PRESENTS", with their logo symbol next to it. Below it is "A VIDEO YESTERYEAR RECORDING" stacked horizontally and separated by three rows. Below it is the copyright stamp.
  • 1983-Early 1990s?: The texts "VIDEO IMAGES PRESENTS A VIDEO YESTERYEAR RECORDING" stacked in different positions with a copyright stamp below all of it.
  • Early-Late 1990s: The same texts as the latter, stacked in the same fashion, but is slightly modified. The typeface is in plain sans-serif, and the copyright stamp is omitted.

Variants:

  • A closing version exists, where there is the text "THE END" in the middle and "A VIDEO IMAGES/VIDEO YESTERYEAR PRESENTATION" below it.
  • A videotaped version of the 1981-1983 logo is shown on the tape of an episode of The Ed Wynn Show dated on January 7th of 1950.
  • On the 1984 modified print of Nosferatu (1922), that was mastered with the "Video Accu-speed" flickerless recording system, the sequence starts with "Video Images® presents a Video Yesteryear® recording", separated by four rows. The screen then scrolls down, showing the info about the film's restoration, followed by the copyright stamp, As it keeps scrolling down, it reveals info about the original music score, followed by the copyright stamp again.
