Charles Jackson Bradshaw

Charles Jackson Bradshaw was born in Lake City Florida to James William and Florence Sanders Bradshaw on July 15, 1936. Charlie was predeceased by his parents and his wife, Julia Brewer Bradshaw, daughter Julia Dargan Bradshaw and brothers James William Bradshaw, Jr., Sanders Hatfield Bradshaw, Sam Bradshaw and Jerome Davis Bradshaw.

Growing up in Lake City Florida and later Dublin Georgia, Charlie enjoyed baseball and football, excelling in both sports. He attended the University of Georgia on a football scholarship where he was proud to be one of “Wally’s Boys.” After an injury, he transferred to Wofford College where he served as Student Body President, graduated with a B.S. in Mathematics and, most importantly, met the love of his life, Judy. He was honored to become a Little All American Quarterback setting many school records earning entry into the Wofford College and South Carolina Athletic Halls of Fame.

Charlie Co-Founded Spartan Food Systems, which opened its first Hardee’s on Kennedy St in Spartanburg in 1961. After many years of growth with Hardee’s and Quincy’s Steakhouse, Spartan Foods sold to Trans World Corporation, where Charlie served as President and Chief Operating Officer overseeing TWA Airlines, Hilton International Hotels, Canteen Corporation, Century 21 Real Estate and Spartan Food Systems. After retirement, Charlie founded Bradshaw Investments and served on many Corporate Boards of Directors and Charitable Foundations and was later inducted into the South Carolina Business Hall of Fame.

Charlie and his wife Judy loved the Lord and were founding members of Westminster Presbyterian Church where they worshiped and served in many capacities. They lived a charmed life and raised a family in Spartanburg. After retirement they enjoyed summers in Linville and winters in South Florida where Charlie pursued his love for golf.

He is survived by his sister, Maymie Lou Bradshaw Spearman, sons Charlie Bradshaw, Jr (Virginia), and their children: Mary Patricia Bradshaw McGreevy (Whit), Julia Ann Bradshaw, Frances Lee Bradshaw Salerno (Ryan) as well as son Bill Bradshaw and his children: William Brewer Bradshaw, Jr (Cassidy), Thomas Samuel Bradshaw (Jamie Keith) and Marcia Collins Bradshaw Cromie (Michael) and eight great grandchildren that he adored.

A celebration of life will be held at 2:00 pm on Friday, May 12th at Westminster Presbyterian Church located at 309 Fernwood Drive, Spartanburg SC.
