Premiere Watch: Dare to Love Me

Time slot: Monday-Tuesday
Broadcaster: KBS
Genre: Rom-com
Episode count: 16
Global streamer: Viki

Reasons to watch: It’s always a good day for an opposites-attract rom-com, is it not? While the premise is cute, silly, and all kinds of dramaland predictable, Lee Yoo-young was in one of my favorite little mini dramas (You Drive Me Crazy), so I have high hopes of her here as our downtrodden doormat heroine. She gets stars hearts in her eyes when the Confucian scholar L treats her kindly, and… *Cue hijinks*

TL;DR: Prim and proper L attracts Lee Yoo-young’s affections, and no one’s blaming her

You drive me crazy has the best theme song on the OST for summing up their relationship and as soon as I read your comment it started playing in my head. It really is a cute little drama, thank you for bringing it back to mind. To any beanie who has not seen it please do yourself a favour and check it out.

Back to Dare to love me, I hope this is the drama I have written in my head having read the synopsis and watched the trailers😆

I'm becoming more interested in this drama the more I hear about it, so that's nice!

However, I was not able to get over the ending of You Drive Me Crazy, so much so that I realized I'm hesitant to watch this FL in anything else. I hope this show is good so I can cleanse my palette regarding her!

I have only seen (and enjoyed) Lee Yoo-young in ‘heavy’ roles (in order) OCN’s TUNNEL (2017), SBS’s YOUR HONOR (2018) and JTBC’s INSIDER (2022) so I am really looking forward to see LYY in a comic role and I am sure she will be great in KBS’s DARE TO LOVE ME.
Thanks for the plug for the 4 episode MBC drama YOU DRIVE ME CRAZY. I had no idea about this drama. I queued it up at Viki US. I will start this afternoon.

Looking forward to hearing your feedback. I learnt about when there was a post talking about short dramas and people were listing out drama specials and these very short dramas. I found some real gems.

The two-in-one poster with the miniature OTP running around in each other's minds doing random stuff is what I want in my drama. Only doing such things together in their drama life. Cue nice little meet ups, drinking tea and posing cutely.

'Posing cutely' Writers and directors underestimate how much we want this in a drama. Sure, plot is nice, but a good serving of posing cutely can not go wrong. And posing cutely is far better than a really terrible plot.

*high five* 🖐

Cute little moments in a drama can hide any / all crater sized plot holes. 😂
We want our OTPs to have together. ❤

Yeah, I wish drama writers would realize that not only is it okay to give a relationship space to breathe, a lot of times it's actually really helpful

Dr.Slump had cute, but most people complained about the cuteness in the second half.

I'm happy with cute through and through. IMO the cuteness in Dr. Slump was the sugar coating over the bitter pill being its actual plot of depression. Wotsay @minniegupta1

Why do I feel PHS will start having hiccups very soon? 😂😂😂

I think barring a couple of misses, Doctor Slump nailed it a hundred percent. Not in my wildest imagination would I have thought a plot on depression could be this funny and heart-warming, and would actually help. This is why I watch k-dramas. They make me feel whole, their random sweet talks tickles my insides. Each drama, no matter how absurd the plot, has gem or two that you can walk away with (well for most part).

@seeker @minniegupta1 I think those of us who loved it will mostly remember the conversations they had about depression, burnout, anxiety and healing than about the overloaded sweetness. At the end of the series we all walked away with a good message (minus the excessive drinking 🙄🙄)

💯 @emsel very very well expressed. Indeed the cuteness did not feel excessive at all. It was a perfect amount to balance the very very important topics which are rarely dealt with so much sensitivity, deft and respect. Drinking could have been toned down a bit but I think it was all meant to be a joke which perhaps the Korean audience got but we didn't gel with that as much.

Doctor slump was really good for me..Even if you didn't like the aeygo moments I felt like it wasn't bad, it gave a complete closure of everything and didn't end with happily ever after..

I am HYPED for this drama. 60% bc that's one of the cutest posters I've seen, 30% bc the teasers & trailers seemed and the rest bc of the leads. Anyways, romcom fans are eating good this month XD

Wouldn't it be great if we have not only one romance drama with no serial killers or horrible traumatic exposure (Frankly Speaking), but TWO?

Yippee! It's here! "L" in a hanbok and gat! Lee Yoo-young in a comedy! Me with one hand on go and one hand in the Ksnacks! Roll it!

Well. . . . . . this was bad. Really bad. Like a cartoon - everything exaggerated and the dialogue? No wit, no whimsy, no sparkle.

And then I checked MDL and it's based on a webtoon. So - is this intentionally scripted that way? Regardless, I won't be watching Ep. 2.

This poster is tickling all my funny bones and vibing the mitocondrias that are releasing spurts of fuzzy energy bubbles in my body.
