Sean O'Grady Independent (UK) ITV's excellent detective series Manhunt is back, and it makes for superb, compulsive viewing. Rated: 5/5 Oct 29, 2021 Full Review Deborah Ross The Mail on Sunday (UK) Sutton is played by Martin Clunes, brilliantly. Truly, a career best. Sutton is watchful and determined and occasionally drily funny, yet you wouldn't say he was charismatic but somehow, in Clunes's hands, he is. Rated: 5/5 Sep 28, 2021 Full Review Alison Rowat The Herald (Scotland) Clunes was superb. Between Manhunt and the recent Stephen (Steve Coogan as a Met detective), it seems you cannot get better than a comedian to play an old school copper who radiates decency. Manny P If only Clunes could find material like this on a regular basis, he's one of the UK's untapped talent. A very immersive experience. Rated 3.5 out of 5 stars 08/11/22 Full Review Audience Member The only reason I didn't give Manhunt Season Two 5 stars is...I virtually never give 5 stars! I was really was impressed with Martin Clunes in Season One, stepping outside of his Doc Martin comfort zone and I'm happy to report he's done it again. Nice to see a seasoned actor stretch themselves so well. It gives nothing away to tell that he and a squad are chasing a serial rapist, one who'd offended for 17 years. You read that right: 17 years with no arrests. So Colin Sutton (Clunes) is parachuted in for "a review" - in and out, 2 weeks max before his retirement. Naturally there's more to it - he becomes the Senior Investigating Officer and away we go. What I really liked is how well (I think) they show the realities of police work - tired cops, restricted budgets and resources, bruised feelings and resentment with outsiders dropping in...but also how the group eventually accepts and supports him. Good performances all around, no stupid heroics. Nice to see, for example, a constable pursue a suspect, with nothing more than a collapsable baton. And btw: interesting in the UK the police vests are not called "bullet-proof vests", but "stab vests". Different culture, eh? And now I'm waiting (I hope) for Season Three.
