Pregnant Ashanti and Nelly Reflect on ‘Special’ Mother’s Day with Their Families: ‘Yeah Yeah I Know I’m Late’

Ashanti and Nelly are reflecting on their extra special Mother’s Day.

On Thursday, May 16, the pregnant singer, 43, shared photos on Instagram of herself posing with her fiancé, Nelly, 49, and their relatives on the spring holiday. One photo showed Ashanti in a dress covering her growing bump alongside Nelly, who sported a gray sweatsuit.

“This Mother’s Day was so special,” Ashanti captioned the post. “Having our families together as we are about to embark on such an incredible journey was amazing. Wishing all of the amazing Moms and Moms to be a beautiful Mother’s Day...!!!! 😆😆😆😆❤️🙏🏽🥳 #grateful 🙏🏽🥰”

She added: “Yeah yeah I know I’m late… it was so much food I got distracted 🤣🤣 Ps… I only had 1 plate tho 🤣🤣👀"

In April, Ashanti and Nelly announced they were expecting their first baby together, with the R&B singer confirming the happy news in a video shared to her Instagram.

As she got ready for a performance, Ashanti's mom Tina Douglas asked her how much time she needs. “Uh, I'm gonna need about nine months,” Ashanti answered, prompting her mom to look shocked.

Ashanti also shared the news with Essence, revealing that not only is she pregnant, but she and Nelly are engaged.

“This new year of my life is such a blessing full of love, hope and anticipation,” Ashanti told the outlet. “Motherhood is something that I have looked forward to, and sharing this with my family, fiancé and loyal fans, who have been so supportive of my career, is an amazing experience.”

Nelly is already dad to son Cornell III (who goes by Tre), 25, and daughter, Chanelle (who goes by Nana), 30. The rapper also helped raise niece Sydney and nephew Shawn as his own after his sister, Jackie Donahue, died of leukemia at 31 in 2005.

Later in April, Ashanti shared an Instagram video with her bump on display in a form-fitting dress. The Grammy winner’s video included a clip of her showing off her chic maternity look, accompanied by her song “Sweet Baby.”

“My sweet baby 🙏🏽 Well….. (Our) Sweet baby 🤣🤣😘 @nelly,” she captioned the post.
