Forsaken Fortress

Grab one of the barrels in front of you to put it over your head, then walk into the courtyard. Watch out for the searchlights. Don't move when they're on you. There are two entrances; a west and an east gate as well as a stairway in the south. Go through the east entrance.

There are plenty of ways of getting through this fortress, but the easiest way to get through this fortress is to get caught (and since you're likely to get caught either way, it makes sense to start the walkthrough here). Just turn left or right from this room and run into one of the Moblin guards. You will be thrown into a small prison cell in the very south of the fortress. To escape from the prison, jump on the table and leap over to the shelf with the pot. Destroy the pot and you will find a secret tunnel you can crawl into.

When you emerge from the tunnel, you will find a treasure chest with the Dungeon Map.

Jump down into the area below and step on the switch, hidden behind the barrels. This will open the cell door and you can enter to get a Piece of Heart from the treasure chest inside.

Go into the next hallway and let the guards catch you once more. You'll start from the cell again. Escape to the room with a treasure chest, but this time jump to the swinging lamp and jump again to the other side of the room. Exit through the right door, turn left from the passage and walk up the ramp to the left.

You will arrive at the first of the searchlight towers. Climb up the ladder and go to the pot in the back. Destroy it and the guard will take notice of you, then grab one of the sticks, lock on to the enemy and hit him with B repeatedly. If you somehow lose the sticks, you can also lock on to the guard and use your shield to make him lose his stick. Once the guard is defeated, the searchlight is no longer operational. Go back down to the passage you came from, go left to enter the door at its other end.

You're in a room with two torches, an oil lamp hanging from a rope, and a treasure chest off to the right. Open the treasure chest to get the Compass. Use the rope to swing across to the other side of the room and go through the door. There is a ladder in this room, so if you happen to fall, you can climb back up. You will be in another outdoor passage.

Turn to the left and go up the ramp (above, left picture). Climb up the ladder on the right (you can't reach the one on the left) and defeat the second searchlight guard. Go back to the passage below and enter the room to the left.

This is the room above the east entrance. Use the rope to swing across, exit the room and make a left. Push the block down (hold R to grab it) so that you have an easy shortcut to come back up here. The next room lets you access the higher floors of this fortress, so before we go on, let's explore the rooms downstairs. Climb down the wall and push the crate underneath the ladder.

Enter through the east gate and make a left. Pick up the barrel and carefully move into the hallway. Don't move when the guards are looking at you and stay out of their path when standing still. Your best bet is to stick close to the walls. Watch out for rats. They like to blow your cover. Go through the boat dock area and enter the next passage. Avoid the lone guard and enter the final room. There is a treasure chest to the right -- but there's also a watcher statue above that will shoot at you when you cross the room. So sneak over to the right and climb over the bed to get to the treasure chest. Inside, you will find a yellow Rupees. The gate in this room leads to a balcony with some hearts -- so go out if you're low on energy. Climb up the ladders on the beds to get to the upper floor. Don't worry, you can outrun the statue's laser beams. Exit through the door to the south.

Walk down the passage and make a right at the next opening, then climb up the tall ladder. Take out the light operator and you will have shut down the third and final light. Climb back down and make a left to go back to the room with the statue. Use the rope to swing to the other side of the room and exit through the door. You'll arrive in a hallway with a crate. Go straight and into the next room.

Two guards patrol this room. You have to keep an eye on both so that you don't get spotted. Wear the barrel and stick to the right edge of the walkway. Don't stand still too long, however, or a rat will jump at you. When guards look at you accompanied by a drum roll sound, stand still. They will pass unless they've seen you or you're in their way. Don't move when the two guards meet in the middle, but as soon as they turn and walk in opposite directions, follow the right guard, then cut across to the left behind him and sneak up the stairs. Don't be hasty. You can still be spotted when on the steps, so carefully move up and exit the room.

Walk up the stairs, but keep an eye out for another guard. Get into the barrel when the guard is not looking your way, then walk up on the left side when the guard's back is turned. You can slip past him when he's looking off to the right. Just go left and around the corner and you're out of his eyesight. You can dump the barrel now. No more stealth action.

You turned off the searchlights, right? Then sidle along the wall by walking up to it and pressing (and holding A), as seen in the left picture below.

If you haven't taken care of the light ahead of you, climb down the stairs instead and push down the crate to create yourself another shortcut, then deal with the light operator. But if you've taken care of the searchlights then you have nothing to worry about. Follow the path, sidle along the next ledge and you'll finally lay eyes on your trusted sword, lying on the ground... in front of a Bokoblin guard!

Don't worry. Just run on in and grab the Sword. The guard is a pushover. Just target him with L and show what you've learned from Orca. You won't believe how easy it is to defeat this guy. After a successful hit, the guard will drop his sword and, if you want to have some fun, you can pick it up with A and use it against him (you can hit him with B or throw it at him with A -- but you can't take pick-up weapons with you through doors.). Quickly beat him and enter the fortress. Then watch the cutscene and...
