What travellers are saying
- Beth WTenino, WA111 contributionsWe wanted to see the Sandhill Cranes return to the Platte River for the night. Our experience was amazing. Staff are knowledgable, courteous, and helpful. Pack your patience and dress warmly. You will wait in a blind until the evening light is just right of the cranes to return to the river. It is worth every minute of the wait as they begin returning and the island of cranes in the river continues to grow. Truly a moving experience.Written April 17, 2024This review is the subjective opinion of a Tripadvisor member and not of Tripadvisor LLC. Tripadvisor performs checks on reviews.
- Melanie HKlamath Falls, OR33 contributionsIt was worth the stop! I’m from Oregon and anything Oregon trail related I’m interested in. Enjoyed it!!
Got to see live buffalo. A first for me!

This spring (2019) it was very cold so the bird migration was later -- but bigger. Nearly 800,000 birds passed through. It is a very beautiful rural area around the Platte River -- and birds settle there for the night. Check it out. There are many sites around Kearney and Grand Island Nebraska. SPECTACULAR -- GIVES new meaning to "flyover":)Written April 22, 2019This review is the subjective opinion of a Tripadvisor member and not of Tripadvisor LLC. Tripadvisor performs checks on reviews.
- chamarav104 contributionsThe kids had a blast. Everything was clean. The husband and I even enjoyed the lazy river several times. Had lockers with locks to keep your valuables safe. The staff was great even when dealing with an extremely large group (100's) of rowdy teenagers.Written September 15, 2021This review is the subjective opinion of a Tripadvisor member and not of Tripadvisor LLC. - 4bettGrand Island, NE44 contributionsThis is a beautiful park with a choice of activities for young and old. There are also walking paths and different flower gardens.Written September 3, 2019This review is the subjective opinion of a Tripadvisor member and not of Tripadvisor LLC. - Michael K4 contributionsGreat brew in a cool environment. I tried a number but settled on the Dark IPA and it was fantastic. This is a great stop for beer enthusiasts!Written November 21, 2023This review is the subjective opinion of a Tripadvisor member and not of Tripadvisor LLC. Tripadvisor performs checks on reviews.
- sarahsQ8941TDFalls City27 contributionsFirst time at Fonner Park. Have not been to a horse race since Aksarben closed and forgot how much fun it was. We had a good time and anxious to go back againWritten April 4, 2023This review is the subjective opinion of a Tripadvisor member and not of Tripadvisor LLC. Tripadvisor performs checks on reviews.
- TukupOmaha, NE122 contributionsWe stop in regularly with our grandchildren when in Grand Island. There is a special part for small children that they enjoy before picking out their books. They are all readers. Although not as large as an "Omaha Library" they have an amazing array of books of every genre and age bracket. There are several bookcases right inside the door with books for sale "cheap." That's an attraction for me while the kids are playing or reading.Written September 3, 2019This review is the subjective opinion of a Tripadvisor member and not of Tripadvisor LLC. - TexasCatBirdGatesville, TX2,469 contributionsIn a large building near the state fairgrounds one will find Raising Nebraska, an educational experience regarding the products raised or processed in Nebraska. Even us 6 seniors in our party all agreed we learned something on several levels even though we all come from rural Texas towns.
The interactive exhibits are terrific. I learned about all the byproducts of corn which was by itself amazing. Then came information through question and answer cards, videos, pictures, maps that light up, and touch screens about a variety of topics. School kids were visiting while we were there and they all seemed excited about the exhibits to find answers to questions given them. Enjoyed the time we spent here.Written March 10, 2018This review is the subjective opinion of a Tripadvisor member and not of Tripadvisor LLC. It's kind of a hidden secret.Written March 5, 2020This review is the subjective opinion of a Tripadvisor member and not of Tripadvisor LLC. Tripadvisor performs checks on reviews.
- Travelchic012Grand Island, NE542 contributionsWe decided to give this park a try for a leisure walk. The trail is not fancy and there are no markings or a fancy paved trail around the lake. You just walk and make your way around. This is an easy 1.2 mile walk.Written April 7, 2019This review is the subjective opinion of a Tripadvisor member and not of Tripadvisor LLC. - Kevin JGrand Island, NE207 contributionsI feel grand island is growing decently but I feel the mall is lacking a bit. Stores slowly closing. No good new ones replacing. Maybe because of price. Anyways. Decents choices of stores just wish they had H&M ect. Stuff the mall needs to keep it going up. Theater is okay with it had better sounds/seats/space ect. Just feel it's not as good as it use to be when the middle of walkways had sitting areas. Those was the days mall look good and felt cool.Written July 3, 2018This review is the subjective opinion of a Tripadvisor member and not of Tripadvisor LLC. Tripadvisor performs checks on reviews.
- Travelchic012Grand Island, NE542 contributionsI chose Eagle Scout for my morning walk. It's about a 1.2 mile walk around the lake. There are many opportunities for bird watching while you walk or taking photographs. When I was out there the boat dock needed repair work and was not functional.Written April 23, 2019This review is the subjective opinion of a Tripadvisor member and not of Tripadvisor LLC. - MarcieJWI38 contributionsDon’t go to the address listed on Trip Advisor - you’ll end up in the parking lot of a small office building. This corner of prairie is actually located south of the town of Alda.
Once we found the right spot, we had a very hard time seeing the wagon ruts; in fact, we’re not entirely sure we saw them at all. We did see lots of paths through the prairie flowers made by people or animals. Maybe this is better viewed not in the middle of summer...Written July 28, 2019This review is the subjective opinion of a Tripadvisor member and not of Tripadvisor LLC.
