Football to Host Sacred Heart

WASHINGTON – The Georgetown University football team will continue its three-game homestand with a battle against the Sacred Heart Pioneers on Saturday, September 9. Kickoff is slated for 12:30 p.m. at Cooper Field.

ABOUT THE HOYAS
  • Georgetown is coming off its sixth season-opening win over the last seven years with a commanding 49-7 victory over Marist on Cooper Field last weekend. 
  • Nicholas Dunneman captured his first career weekly honor after receiving Patriot League Player of the Week with four punt returns for 48 yards. The sophomore also made two catches for 22 yards and had four carries for 32 yards to total 97 all-purpose yards.  
  • The Hoya offensive line helped the team to 401 total yards with 294 on the ground and kept the Red Foxes away from the quarterback with no sacks allowed. Joshua Stakely led the Hoyas with 121 rushing yards on 14 attempts.
  • On the defensive end, freshman Zeraun Daniel and Sherman Steptoe II grabbed a pair of interceptions. Daniels' 44-yard interception return set up GU's fourth touchdown of the afternoon while Steptoe made a 51-yard interception return for a touchdown to cap off the fourth quarter. Sophomore Jaden Dugger tallied seven tackles, one forced fumble and two blocked passes to earn a Patriot League Honorable Mention. 
  • Quarterback Tyler Knoop had a productive day throwing 12-16 for 107 yards and two touchdowns. The fifth year also ran for 57 yards and one touchdown. 

ABOUT THE PIONEERS
  • SHU fell in its opening week contest at home to Lafayette 19-14 despite having the a time of possession advantage of 35:04.
  • The Pioneers' quarterback Cade Pribula threw 17-28 for 138 yards and one touchdown against the Leopards. 
  • Head Coach Mark Nofri is in his 12th season as the head coach for SHU and holds a 67-53 record. 

THE MATCHUP
  • The Hoyas and Pioneers will face for the second time in program history on Saturday. During the first meeting on October 23, 2011 GU fell 33-20 on the road.
