As many of you know on Saturday 11th November. I took part in the ‘Stars in their Eyes’ charity event. What a journey it was! Like many of my colleagues, I feel that working at St George’s is not just a job. So when the opportunity came up to raise funds for our much needed new minibus, I could not really say no, even though I knew this would take me completely out of my comfort zone.
At the beginning of October, I went along to my first rehearsal, at this point I had only met Anthony and Gordy, the organisers, briefly. Even though the other contestants are very good and experienced singers, they made me feel very welcome. We met up many times over the coming weeks and soon became a very close knit, supportive group.
As the day drew closer, I was becoming increasingly nervous but I knew it was going to be worth it. Saturday November 11th soon arrived and from midday, we all started arriving at the Riverside Centre. The place was abuzz with excitement and nerves. We met the three judges, one of which was our very own Laura from the office. The doors opened and the audience piled in. We were all back stage helping each other with make-up, costumes, wigs and vocal warm ups.
Before I knew it, it was my turn. My video played and the screen went up… I was literally shaking. The music started… This was it! Well, I gave it my all and the audience were very kind and supportive.
After our final act, we were all asked back on stage for the results. Adrian (Meatloaf) came 3rd, Samantha (Amy Winehouse) came 2nd, and Shannon (Adele) was our very worthy winner who was presented with a trophy sponsored by LemLec.
It was a tremendous night and one that has given me many great memories and new friends. It was a real roller coaster of emotions and I was worn out afterwards. Nevertheless, it was all worth it as last Friday, Anthony and Gordy came and presented a cheque for £2000 to, Chloe and Liam (6th form students) along with Steff and myself.
Thank you to those who came and supported me on the night, the organisers, Anthony, Gordy, Paul and Frankie, and a massive appreciation to my fellow contestants.
