For pre-1980 or so TV shows -- but not the usual Lucy or *Gunsmoke* reruns. This subreddit is for the ephemeral TV programs of the pre-VCR era -- the stuff no one ever expected to see again: newscasts, local kiddie shows and horror movie hosts, live TV dramas, game shows, soap operas, teen dance parties... Oh, and kinescopes. Lots and LOTS of kinescopes.

Aaand I'm 12 again... 🇨🇦 🤙
My favorite Benny Hill moment. A scantily-clad young woman turns to the camera and says, “Who do you have to sleep with to get off this show?”
Right up there with Benny getting slapped after he suddenly lifted a woman, with the reveal being he was reading a book "How to Pick Up Girls".
Benny Hill is buried in the cemetry near the hospital where I work - and I frequently walk through it. I've always thought, on the anniversary of his death, there should be a chase scene like this with Yakety Sax playing - I'm sure it's what he would have wanted.
Not so fun fact, shortly after his death, Benny Hill's grave was desecrated. Rumours had started around the town that , because he had no family, he had chosen to take his wealth with him. His grave was dug up and the coffin opened.
We were absolutely not allowed to watch Benny Hill when we were kids. Dad thought it puerile and Mum thought it crude. They were both right, but every so often, it will illicit a guffaw
These days i'd imagine it get's called alot worse than that.
Couldn't make this show today, not for broadcast TV anyway.
Yeah it was that whole ‘Oo-er Vicar’ end of the pier sauciness. Page 3 and all that. You’re right, it couldn’t get made now and I’m not sure how popular it would be. People seem more sophisticated, humour wise nowadays and BH was about as basic a humour as there is.
I dunno for every person who's actually like that it feels you you got a hundred more shitting on things simply because it's the only way they feel special.
I blame this show for my fascination with lingerie and particularly garter belts. Funny as hell to teenage me.
You say that as if it were a bad thing!
Was quite commonly worn even in 70s and 80s.
That music
Yakkity Sax.
One of our all-time faves when we were kids. Our dad tho was conflicted because it was too adults for us kids but he also loved watching it.
That's how my dad was with Ren and Stimpy in the 90's. He knew my brother and I shouldn't have been watching it but he'd laugh harder than we did.
Yes!
We shall not see his like again.
Ugh now I can’t get the song out of my head 😆
It is SO weird that this just showed up in my feed. I haven’t thought about Benny Hill or talked about the show in decades. I just mentioned it tonight at dinner when I said I’d like to record my neighbors terrible parallel parking and speed it up and set it to this song.
Tame naughtiness. Loved the show - it was right for its time.
Those nylons...
The yakity sax
I saw my first pair of boobies on this show.
Pure gold. I loved that show as a kid, i still have to laugh so hard when i remember how he portrayed the A-Team.
The ol‘ fake arm gag.
He would’ve made a great Downton Abbey parody. And now I have that song stuck in my head.
I'd buy THAT for a dollar!
