    Wonderful Mall With Great Restaurants
My husband and I visited Portugal for our 40th anniversary and went to this huge indoor shopping mall several times while in Lisbon. First, we wanted to tour the mall to see how the locals enjoy their shopping. Then we noticed there were so many places to eat (downstairs and up top) -- with the mall so close to our B & B, that we ended up eating dinner there many nights at different places. Even the food court had amazing places and food (not as casual as in the US malls), and some of the top floor restaurants had delicious foods with great outdoor views! It was wonderful!

    Best Grocery Store in Town
This is a terrific department store with great service in all the sections. The gourmet foods section on the top floor is wonderful, and there are some good restaurants there as well. We bought some clothes and a lot of groceries in the best grocery store in town.

    Great shopping
Such a lovely store selling a wide range of clothes, kitchen items, etc. We also love the food store and the specialist food stores and restaurants on the top floor. There is also a cinema and food area attached. Quite tight parking as you descend to the underground parking. Free parking if you spend more than 100 euros in the supermarket.

Large Upscale Department Store & Grocery with Restaurants
Large, modern upscale department store in the Saldanha district of Lisbon. The Sao Sebastiao Metro station stop takes you directly into the complex without having to step outside. Besides selling the usual items found in a department store, El Corte Ingles also has numerous restaurants, a food court, a pharmacy, a florist, and large grocery store. If you’re in the vicinity, El Corte Ingles is worth a visit and be sure to try and catch a bite to eat in one of the numerous eateries and restaurants.

Really good department store well worth a visit
A department store with 7 floors the top one has a cafe and a fantastic selection of food and wines. Supermarket on floor -2 and a fast food floor with 12 to 15 stalls each one was packed out and had queues. Well worth a visit

Why can not the management stop the smoking in front of all doors and entrances.
It smells all over, also inside the department store.
Why is El Corte Ingles not stopping this bad cancerous habit at entrances?
Do as Singapore has done at Orchard road!
No smoking on the street except in yellow painted square, far from all entrances.
I have never seen so many young people especially ladies smoking and spreading the stinking dangerous fumes as in Portugal. What is wrong with the Portuguese?
Do something.

We love, love, love El Corte Ingles!

Our first encounter with this fantastic department store was in Madrid a few years ago when we visited our daughter who was spending a year abroad in Madrid. This was THE place to go for anything you needed - like the NYC's Macy's but with a floor for fancy food & drinks.

We hopped off our hop on/off bus to have a spin around El Corte Ingles in Lisbon on a rainy weekday, right around lunch time. It gave us an opportunity to look through the wines on the top floor, buy some food souvenirs and enjoy a nice charcuterie and wine at the Moet Chandon wine bar. Since the wine we wanted was out of stock, we were lucky enough to find a Vinho Verdo recommended to us by our snooty waitress which is now our favorite.

If you want to do something different, come to El Corte Ingels for some good food and fun.

When I went to Spain a few years ago, I had visited El Corte Ingles and loved it. So when I found out they had a location in Lisbon, I definitely wanted to check it out. Unfortunately, this one just wasn't it. Maybe my expectations were set to high because of the Barcelona one (since it is a Spanish store after all), but the Lisbon one was just lacking. The food court was just filled with over-priced restaurants. The Cafeteria was reasonably priced, but none of the menu items appealed to us. There wasn't any Portugues menu items - it was just basic sandwiches, salads, and burgers. Visting the food court was our main reason for coming here so unless you are planning to actually shop here, I'd recommend skipping it.

Mamadu Cande arbitrarily let one customer go in front of another at the supermarket checkout line.

I was the next customer at the checkout, I am an Asian woman with 11 items. Mamadu Cande asked me if I would be okay with letting a customer behind me, a White woman in her 30s with 1 item, checkout first.

I said "No. Why?!", incredulous. Mamadu Cande grabbed her item from behind mine on the checkout belt, scanned and allowed her to pay first anyway.

It was against my will, illogical, unjustified, unexplained, inexplicable, probably racist and definitely arbitrary.

I complained. Mamadu Cande simply smiled like I was being ridiculous, and gave no explanation. What is the point of queuing if the checkout staff gets to pick and choose who gets to go first? If all customers behind me have only one item, do I ever get to pay and leave?

The other customer was able-bodied and young, did not appear to be in a rush, and did not request to go first. We were not in a 10 item or less checkout line. There was completely no reason for Mamadu Cande to do what he did. I cannot believe this happened at all, and in El Corte Ingles, allegedly the best high end supermarket in Portugal.

This shopping mall is very interesting, with several branches, and I particularly like it the most. It offers the finest collections of products, and I often visit to check out new items and do grocery shopping or buy souvenirs. Although there are cheaper places, I enjoy the presentation and experience of this location and I highly recommended it (due to the products, only).

However, one day when I was not at my best and dressed casually in jeans, a shirt, and a simple jacket, I noticed that security guards were constantly watching me and my friend. If my friend, who has a darker skin tone than mine, touched any items on display, security would approach us, without saying a word. It was a frustrating experience, and it highlighted the issue of racism and xenophobia.

What's worse, I witnessed another incident where a group of Brazilians were being mocked by a (native) Nescafe machine salesperson nearby. This happened on the upper floors of the mall. Though I can't say why the mocking began, I do not see it as a professional or customer-oriented service attitude."

Whatever you think about buying, just name it! And you will probably find it at "El Corte Inglês". A fantastic Department Store, located near "Parque Eduardo VII", and easily reachable by taxi, subway or even walking. Pricey? Maybe, but you can look for special offers, discounts for foreign tourists (as tax exemption, on some cases) and enjoy shopping at one of the top Department Stores in the whole world! And do not dare to skip its top floor and the awesome gourmet section! Bring your passport, you may need it for assuring special discounts. Unmissable! Enjoy!
