Listening to this 2-CD set makes it clear just how bad radio is today! A 10,000 Maniacs song would never be played on the radio today, squeezed out by another Britney Spears or Justin Timberlake song. The songs are remastered and sound great, and the packaging and liner notes are insightful and interesting to read. If there's any complaint, it's that some great songs were left off, such as The Painted Desert, Lily Dale, Few and Far Between, and Jezebel, but that's a minor complaint. However, the second disc, full of previously unreleased or hard to find b-sides, is the main reason to buy this set- it's the best thing next to an all-new 10,000 Maniacs CD that we'll ever get. Peace Train, Let the Mystery Be, To Sir With Love, Everyday is Like Sunday and the rest are the perfect antidote to the state of popular music today.
Expertly assembled & chronologic progression thru the group's college rock music - from early outtakes, thru The Wishing Chair, & In My Tribe. Natalie's & Michael Stipe's duet on "To Sir, With Love" was a nice surprise!
Absolutely fabulous collection of songs. So good that, IMHO, the second disc - which has the more "obscure" songs - gets just as much air play from me as the other disc with their more popular material. In particular, some people have dissed "Peace Train" but their rendition (second disc) of this song may be just as good as Cat's. Highly recommended for its easy listening even if you're not a 10,000 Maniacs fan.
I bought it because it was not expensive and I really liked "More Than This." I learned that Natlie Merchant is not the singer I appreciate. I just happen to not appreciate this style. If you are a fan, this is a good CD, 31 songs for a good price.
I have enjoyed the music of 10,000 Maniacs over the years in a passive manner, via the radio only and had never purchased any of their CDs. I bought this hoping it had all of the songs I had come to know and more. That's exactly what it had. If you aren't a real fanatic or purist about 10,000 Maniacs and just want to fill a gap in your music collection, this is a great way to do it.
Wonderful 2 CD album of the 10,000 Maniac in their prime. A sort of greatest hits with a few early versions of familiar songs. You will not be disappointed with this album. It covers the majority of their best known and played songs.
Bought this CD for my Wife. She had some of the original recordings on cassette, and wanted to upgrade to CD. It is perfect. If you are a Maniacs fan, this is a great purchase.
What can i say 10,000 maniacs singing some great songs or should i say natalie merchant singing love it was big fan of natalie merchant so love this cd
I was never a really big fan but I thought my wife might like it because she is a Natile Merchant fan. This double disc surprise me it is really good chillin music and the second disc has some really cool live spots. Wow
