The clean rooms have no amenities like in-room coffee, hairdryer, fridge, or breakfast but does have nice hot shower, cable TV, A/C, heater and comfy bed.
Recently renovated, it still has the original furniture and each unit has a rusty old car parked in front. The pavement could be resurfaced, but hey, it’s low budget and funky.
The neighborhood is somewhat desolate and evenings are quiet with the occasional freight train.
Museums, great diners, and plaza are a short drive away.
The rustic office is open for a few hours which has a small museum, gift shop, and two wood burning fireplaces for the chilly evenings.
Sarah was very friendly and accommodating.
My husband and I drove to Holbrook AZ to stay in a Tee Pee and found it to be a great/fun experience. Yes, it is not a luxurious hotel, it is a Tee Pee. It was clean, comfy bed, Ac and heat, hot water in the shower with great water pressure. We enjoyed our two nights here and that was also enough time to see the sites.
The wigwam itself is surprisingly roomy, and the beds are quite comfortable. Being a concrete structure, the room was quite cold in the morning but the electric heater warmed it up quickly. It was very quiet and we slept soundly thru the night.
The only drawbacks we encountered was a very small bathroom, and not enough electrical outlets to plug in our electronics - nothing out of the ordinary for a place that has its reputation for being anything but ordinary!
They are old, dated and you feel like there is decades of grime and sweat in the room.
Staff was friendly, but ONLY there between 3pm-9pm.
You need to ask for a blow dryer at check-in fast as they are in limited supply.
Not much is open in Holbrook. Very little to do there at night.
You either have noise from the road in front or the train that goes all night in the back.
Bring an extension cord. Very few outlets.
No plug in the bathroom.
Very noisy old air conditioner.
If you are on the fluffy side, good luck getting in the grungy shower.
There's a good grocery store across the street and a Dollar General. Not much else around.
It could be nice, but needs a lot of updating and TLC.
We wouldn't stay there again.
This was our second time staying here and it was as awesome as our first.
Check in was between 4pm-9pm.and was a breeze.
The parking is full of large holes, due to the rain they get, so watch out and drive carefully.
Location is very dark. While taking pictures at night I witnessed a car run into the curb because he didn't see the entryway onto the property. He did some good damage to the front of his car.
Anyway the teepee was clean and cozy. The small tv didn't bother us because we weren't on vacation to sit around watching tv.
I like the fact that you can backup your car direct to the doorway of the teepee.
At 16 degrees in the morning, that came in handy.
The area is quiet except for the trains, which we like and they didn't bother us.
Built in 1950 this place has been through a lot and were thankfully that it is still up and running.
Than k You Wigwam Motel
We will be back.
Surprisingly, we did not lie awake at night due to the high volume of train traffic. There was not a refrigerator or microwave, but it was okay, we had a cooler and we ate out. We appreciated all the space not being taken up. There was a nice television, but we were so wore out by all the exploring we did, we did not even watch tv. We did, however, LOVE walking around the grounds, photographing the old vehicles and wigwams!! This is definitely a must stay place, at least once!
The light-switch for the bathroom in our wigwam was up high on the wall on the outside of the bathroom. In the middle of the night you couldn't go in, close the door and then turn the light on so the bright light was a little disturbing to whoever was trying to sleep. I say "trying" because of the trains.
I read someone else's review that said they thought the nearby (a stone's throw away) trains stopped around 10:30 p.m. They don't. After being awakened at 12:30 a.m. by the bathroom light on, I did not sleep again. Trains go by about every 20 minutes and they are loud. I sleep with ear plugs and still heard and felt every train. I finally gave up at 5:30 a.m. and got ready for the day.
If you want a "different" experience of sleeping in a wigwam, go for it! Just take an eye mask and noise canceling headphones you can wear to sleep.
There's no breakfast offered but there are maybe 2 restaurants in town plus some fast food.
The best part of staying in Holbrook was taking the road to the south entrance of Petrified Forest. Go in from that direction and you'll see the coolest petrified wood - tons of it!
