Marie-Josee Kravis

Glance at Marie-Josee Kravis‘s resume, and you will realize that she is a busy woman: she acts as a senior fellow at the Hudson Institute, and she serves on the boards of the Robin Hood Foundation, Ford Inc., Vivendi, Hasbro, and the Institute for Advanced Study. She also occasionally submits columns to several major political publications.

Despite her long list of commitments, Kravis finds time for the arts. As president of the Museum of Modern Art, she works closely with director Glenn Lowry to keep MoMA on the cutting edge of modern art. Kravis became president after years on nearly every board at the museum: beyond the Executive Committee, she also contributed to the Capital Campaigns, Conservation, Drawings, Paintings and Sculpture, Finance, and the Special Events and Programming committees. Marie-Josee Kravis and her husband, Henry, have been ardent supporters of the MoMA, donating considerable funds and several pieces of art.

Last year was the inaugural year of the Marie-Josee Kravis Prize for New Music at the New York Philharmonic. The prize will be given every two years, and it consists of $200,000 and a commission at the Philharmonic. This prize is a perfect representation of Kravis’s dedication to the Philharmonic and her commitment to the arts.

Beyond her work at the MoMA and the Philharmonic, Marie-Josee Kravis supports the Lincoln Center for Performing Arts, the Metropolitan Opera, the Hermitage Collection at Somerset House, and many other arts institutions; a busy resume, indeed.
