Product description
Marty Robbins was a reticent television performer. His appearances during the early part of his career were few, so this DVD is a treasure trove. Here are performances and interviews dating from 1959, the heart of Marty's golden era. As an added bonus, we catch Tompall and the Glaser Brothers at the dawn of their long career. Marty was perhaps the most versatile singer in country music, and these long lost performances bear that out. He runs the gamut from Hawaiian songs to western ballads to teen pop to classic country. He does it all effortlessly, and he does it all superbly. If you weren't lucky enough to be at the old Town Hall Party in February and October 1959, we'll take you there! NTSC all region.

This DVD features two appearances from 1959 by Marty Robbins, a very big star of the day, singing a selection of his current country, pop-country, and Hawaiian songs, along with one of his trail songs, The Hanging Tree(!), which was his current hit recording.

From 3 October 1959 -

* Oh, How I Miss You (Since You Went Away) - Marty Robbins
Johnny Bond was a big country star, and something of a western film star of the day. By modern standards the 'interviews' on stage are hammy, but Marty's personality shines through, and he is in great voice.
The picture quality, in B & W, is not great, being recorded by the 'off broadcast' kinescope method used in those days, but is certainly watchable, and a rare opportunity to see both Marty and the Glasers from that time in 1959. The kinescope was the only way of saving a live TV performance for replay from the early 1940s until the early 1960s. The sound, again, is some way short of modern standards, but the recording is well worth hearing, in my view.
The programme lasts about 50 minutes. Additionally, there are brief clips from 4 other Town Hall Party DVDs, ones featuring Eddie Cochran, Bob Luman, Gene Vincent and Johnny Cash.
