Ariel Bybee leaves an inspiring legacy to loved ones and strangers alike
Renowned opera singer and BYU School of Music alumna Ariel Bybee passed away March 20, 2018 from a rare blood disease. After graduating from BYU in 1965 with a bachelor of science in Music, Bybee went on to become a teacher and world-famous vocalist. She performed all over the world, but perhaps her biggest musical accomplishment was performing over 450 times as a mezzo-soprano with the Metropolitan Opera. She was also a featured soloist with the Mormon Tabernacle Choir. Bybee taught at institutions across the U.S. including at the University of Utah and the University of Nebraska-Lincoln. Throughout her life, Bybee was committed to sharing her music with others. In 1994, BYU recognized Bybee's dedication with the Distinguished Service Award. She will be missed by her family, friends and the countless individuals she touched throughout her life and career. To read more about Ariel and her legacy, visit deseretnews.com
