As the greatest Hokage yet, Naruto's astounding chakra and feats have been in part due to his Jinchuriki patron, Kurama. However, he could not have done it without a teacher. Fortunately, Konoha provided the best mentors he could have asked for; Master Jiraiya and Kakashi Sensei (sorry, Iruka).

Since both men have been wonderful influences on the young Uzumaki's life in their own unique way, it's fitting to acknowledge some of their greatest accomplishments as teachers, judging them both by what they taught and the example they set for their students to follow.

10 Jiraiya - Teaching The Rasengan

Naruto's Rasengan in a fight.

Though it began a painstaking endeavor, Jiraiya was clever in the way he taught Naruto his Rasengan. His student's problem was that he did not know how to funnel his chakra into a ball properly; it was too hectic, dispersing in all directions. To remedy this, he had him channel his energy into a water balloon ~ should the balloon pop, it entailed his form was poor.

The Rasengan remains one of Naruto's most powerful and reliable moves, tearing through deadly opponents like Nagato with marginal chakra expense. He would not be half the shinobi he grew into without it.

9 Kakashi - Teaching Sasuke The Chidori

Desperately attempting to keep on par with Naruto, Sasuke needed a potent jutsu to remain viable against the knucklehead ninja and something to defeat Gaara's impervious sand shield. Accordingly, Kakashi taught him the Chidori; a lightning-based technique he designed himself inspired by the Rasengan.

This showed flexibility in his teaching style and balanced care between his students. If Sasuke had been more receptive to Hatake's lessons and patient with his progress, it's likely he would have been able to near Naruto's strength without deigning to treacherous means.

8 Jiraiya - Saving Sasuke & Naruto

When the Akatsuki pursued Naruto to siphon his Jinchuriki, Jiraiya managed to track them down and intervene. He would not be saving exclusively his own student; Sasuke had sensed Itachi nearby and erroneously believed he might have a chance to defeat him.

Through ingenuity and courage, Jiraiya trapped them in a toad's belly, forcing the two evildoers to retreat and saving his protege in the process. He succeeded where Kakashi failed even with the reinforcements of the Leaf's finest Jonin.

7 Kakashi - Preventing A Brutal Fight

Kakashi Naruto

Sasuke and Naruto have often been at odds, their rivalry manifesting in battles increasingly deadly with the elapse of time. However, Kakashi Hatake intervened as often as he could, concerned for the synergy and well being of his strongest pupils.

During their standoff atop a hospital, he deflected their Rasengan and Chidori before they could come to blows. Both were potent enough to obliterate metal water towers; should they have connected, it's uncertain they would be within the shinobi medic's abilities to heal. Kakashi may not have been able to prevent all of their battles, though he doggedly sought to mend the rift between the two boys.

6 Jiraiya - Introducing Sage Chakra

The Sage Toads might have ultimately been responsible for Naruto's mastery over Sage chakra, though it was Jiraiya who acknowledged Naruto's potential with it and introduced him to the concept. It was particularly difficult for the fledgling shinobi, given that entailed stillness and clarity, both qualities he was deficient in.

Nonetheless, the chakra would serve him well, enhancing his Rasengan and already copious pools of energy. With it, he would overcome Sasuke despite the latter having successfully tapped the powers of the Jinchuriki.

5 Kakashi - Trial Of The Bells

The trial of the bells may have been the task that failed the most of Kakashi's students, though it was one crucial to a shinobi's development. It sought to teach a lesson ill-advised to the ninja world; one's comrades must come before the mission. Should they not, both will be lost.

Though Sasuke would ultimately betray the Leaf regardless, it built a foundation for their teamwork that they would use to save each other's lives in the Land of Waves. Without their willingness to sacrifice for one another, Team 7 would have lost everything.

4 Jiraiya - Adopting & Training Orphans

Long before Jiraiya would teach Naruto, he had another student; Nagato. The destruction waged by the Third Shinobi War afflicted more than the combatants, it destroyed the lives of everyone it touched. When he came upon three young children, he could not resist taking them in instead of forging forward, especially due to Nagato's mysterious Rinnegan.

Though Nagato would eventually tread a dark path despite Jiraiya's instruction, it was his cultivation which reached his heart once Naruto arrived at his cave. Without his teachings, Konoha may have been lost forever.

3 Kakashi - Tree Climbing Practice

Kakashi teaching Team 7 tree climbing was an essential part of their development as shinobi. More than that, however, was the way he approached cultivating their nascent skills.

Using three great oaks, he instructed them to mark their progress on how far they ran with their kunai, then left them to their devices. This was a healthy way for the team to compete among themselves without attempting to harm each other in the process and encouraged mutual development among the Genin. Sasuke would not have trained as hard if not for Naruto to use as a reference.

2 Jiraiya - Dying For His Student

Training Nagato came with a specific advantage; it made Jiraiya realize what his former student was capable of. He knew that there was an insidious technique behind Pain's strength and sought him out alone, fully aware that he would most likely die in the process.

Through Jiraiya's sacrifice, Naruto gained crucial information that would lead to Pain's defeat and the restoration of the village. More than that, Jiraiya's final lesson was crucial; to be a true shinobi, one must be willing to offer their lives for those they love.

1 Kakashi - Throwing Himself Before Kaguya

During the final fight against Kaguya, Kakashi lamented his uselessness. Compared to his two thriving students, he did not have much to offer ~ except himself.

As the gravity was onerous enough to pin down even Kaguya herself, Kakashi and Obito both rose to intercept the mad Otsutsuki's spikes, knowing that those who touch it disintegrate. Like Jiraiya, Hatake was fully prepared for his final trip into the afterlife before Obito intervened, redeeming himself for a lifetime of villainy.
