Is this different from Good & Plenty?

u/BobinForApples avatar

Goods are sweeter. Both the candy and the liquorice.

u/mitchleitman avatar

I think they were Good & Plentys adapted to the Canadian market. Too much anise flavour. Not enough liquorice.

i've never heard of good & plenty.

but these are candy coated pellets of licorice and each one has a slightly different taste (the candy coating) depending on its colour.

I'm starting to think they were removed because they look like drugs, but idk

Smarties look way more like drugs than this!

Discontinued sadly. It’s not the first time so hopefully they bring it back.

do you know any 3rd party seller? this is the only candy i like. rarely have cravings and then when i do... nowhere to be found!

so sad!

u/BobinForApples avatar

What do you mean 3rd party seller?

someone outside the normal supply chain

aka "overstock", importers or resellers, or bulk suppliers

u/BobinForApples avatar

Originally there was shortages and then the product completely disappeared. Hersey Canada only sells direct to a few special brokers so pretty much everything you see in stores is the 3rd party seller. Good and plenty or Wiley Wallaby are your too most common alternatives. Venco makes a really nice replacement but hard to find.

But after the first time they discontinued them they brought in multi coloured Good & Plenty from the US and called them "Goodier". They were much worsier.

😂😂

Good and plenty just taste like sugar

...and too much anise. Not enough liquorice flavour

Agreed. Best ever candy. Remember buying it as a kid at the Saturday matinee movies.

I’ve never seen those in my life but I want them

u/HeX-6 avatar

Last time I had them they didn’t taste right also haven’t seen them for a long time

u/Plenty_Psychology_30 avatar

I've been asking around too because they are a great snack! I can't find any stores that carry them 🤷‍♀️

So I didn't even realize Goodies were discontinued, until I bought a bag of licorice all sorts from Walmart and it has a similar Goodies candy! Then I remembered how much I loved those, and when was the last time I saw them?! I can't believe it was that long but if you like Black Licorice of the All Sorts variety, Walmart has a bag called Waterbridge Licorice Mix. The 'goodie' ones are quite....good.

They are my favorite too. Good and Plenty are close but not the same. Let us know if you find them.

I was able to get them a few (2?) years ago on candyfunhouse.ca I don't know if they're still available, though.

i feel like they were in stores two years ago, but thank you very much, im going to cross my fingers and visit that site!

I have never seen them as Twizzler branded. It's been a while since I've seen them around though.

Good n Plenty and Good n Fruity. Both awesome. I’d like to do a market study comparison between good n plenty and goodies. I’ll need a lot of them.

u/mitchleitman avatar

They stopped selling them over a decade ago. The ones they sold in the past years were pale imitations, tasting more like a good & Plenty with different colours. Hershey has gone from bad to worse. Same with Bridge Mixture, which is now just Glosettes and Brookside chocolates. Shame.

maybe i should check out good & plenty!

Have you ever found these?

u/Sienna-Venezia avatar

Goodies used to be one of my favourite candies back in the day..that is until i dunno ten or fifteen years ago i noticed they changed the formula and the taste and texture were very different - extremely messed up like biting down on raw sugar..nasty. why do these companies do this to us ffs?!

u/EmbarrassedAd983 avatar

I used to love Goodies, they were one of my favorite candies. I would always get a bag when I went to the movies or when I had the munchies. I remember the fateful day when I went to the store to pick up a bag and it had a big exciting label on it that said "Now even Goodier, with extra candy coating". I thought to myself that was kind of strange, since that would clearly overpower the licorice. I bought a bag and was absolutely disgusted by them. The texture and flavor was so far off what Goodies are and I threw the bag in the trash. I often checked on them to see if they ever fixed their error, but I guess they felt that this decision made financial sense, somehow.

I'd like to know the decision making process of the change. Is the candy coating cheaper to produce than the black licorice, so they increased the candy coating ratio to increase profits? Did they think that people who like Goodies would like them even more like this and buy more? Did they think they would convert black licorice haters over to Goodies by making it so you can hardly taste the black licorice? I felt so slighted by this company that I avoided purchases of their other licorices on principle. Just like how McCain destroyed their McCain cakes years before. If they really have been discontinued, they did it to themselves.

Damn, I looked for them again today on the off chance they might have been resurrected. But no, tho I couldn't believe they had 3 shelves of red twizzlers! I miss them for my movie theater snacks too, and the occasional tasty pick-me-up.

your not alone i keep looking for them as i first tried them during the virus lockdown in 2020 and instantly liked them and i think i had them 2 or 3 times then they just vanished from the stores and it kinda made me upset as this isnt the first time that i start to like something and next thing i know its gone for good.
