Luis Diaz has revealed his gratitude for the song dedicated to him by Liverpool supporters – and explained his determination to repay the faith he has received.
The fan chant has been more frequently in use in recent months in honour of the Colombian, who on Saturday was named the Reds’ Standard Chartered Men’s Player of the Month for April.
And it has made a major impression on Diaz.
“It’s something beautiful and special because every time we go out to give it our all. To uphold the institution, the club. To do what I came to do from the first moment I arrived,” the No.7 told Liverpoolfc.com.
“I always wanted to perform well. I always wanted to be one of the best, trying to respect everyone. Seeing the fans sing that song, that beautiful song, leaves you something very nice marked for you, to take as a memory.
“I’m very happy. I thank them very much for what they are doing. I always go out happy to the field because I know I have their full support.”
Nearing the end of his second full season at the club since joining from FC Porto in 2022, Diaz has made 49 appearances in all competitions this term.
He has provided 13 goals and five assists across those games, while playing the most minutes of any outfield player in the Liverpool squad aside from Virgil van Dijk.
Assessing his development, he said: “I have grown a lot.
“From the beginning of my career to today, I feel that with the passage of days, of years, living each experience in each different team, coming to this great club that is Liverpool, leaves you with a lot of learnings.
“You learn more and more to be a professional, to be a better person, to be a good teammate and a good guy. The truth is that I am very happy to be here. Great years are coming for the club, I have no doubt about that.
“Personally, I will always try to do my best, always try to give 100 per cent, to always stand out on the field, which is what I came [here] to do. I’m always grateful to God for every opportunity.”
Having previously dropped points in their challenge for the Premier League title, the Reds responded last weekend with an impressive 4-2 home win over Tottenham Hotspur.

Watch on YouTubeThey will end the campaign in at least third place and with a return to Champions League football secured, but Diaz acknowledged the need to heed the experience of the past few weeks.
“It’s no secret, we didn’t finish as well as we hoped,” he said.
“For us, it was crucial to win the league and all the competitions we were in. Unfortunately, the results lately could not be achieved.
“We fell [behind] as a team, but we made a decent season, both individually and as a group. There are many things to improve so we can have a perfect season. But I’m happy and content to be here.”
Liverpool’s penultimate fixture of 2023-24, and Jürgen Klopp’s reign, takes them to Aston Villa for an 8pm BST kick-off on Monday night.
On the prospect of tackling Unai Emery’s fourth-placed team, Diaz said: “We have, as in all matches, always high expectations [of ourselves].
“We know they are a very strong team, that in the Premier League no game is easy. It’s a super-difficult match.
“We have to be ready to answer what they come to do and do what we know, which is to go out to the field to win. We always try to win, to look for the three points and take that victory.”
