Sometimes, simply buying a copy of your favourite or most anticipated video game just isn't enough. We want more than just to play the game and rejoice in the memory of our time with it. We want something that will be a constant reminder of the experience, the story, or the characters - or just some cool collectibles to put on our shelves.

Clearly, video game developers and publishers have realised that we're willing to spend a pretty penny if they include some interesting memorabilia with their games. Video game collector's editions are a win-win for both the company and the player, especially if they include an item that's pivotal in the game itself. From weapons, to statues, and even armour, here are the best video game collector's editions you need to have.

Updated March 5, 2024 by Kenny Kimberly: Collector's Editions are great, but they're usually fleeting. We've come back through to blow off the dust and remove a few of the editions that you can't find anymore, so we aren't tempting you with something unobtainable. To make up for it, we've added a more recent collectible - the Persona 3 Reload Collector's Edition. Enjoy!

Gotham Knights Collectors Edition
Best Group Model
Gotham Knights Collector’s Edition

Gotham's new protectors

Gotham Knights is a celebration of the rest of the Bat-family. So, it's fitting that the centerpiece of this collector's edition is a model of the four heroes in action together. It also comes with a few other things, such as a Talon key pin, a collectible map, and an art book.

Pros
  • Detailed model
  • Useful collectible map
  • The box itself looks cool

Nightwing, Batgirl, Red Hood, and Robin all come together for the large and detailed model that is the featured part of this collection. They look a lot like the in-game characters. So, it's an impressive statute and a great collectible item for fans of those characters or Gotham Knights in general. The map containing the collectibles and the art book are nice extras too.

Hitman 2 Collectors Edition
Best Looking Collector's Edition
Hitman 2 Collector's Edition

An easy-to-carry collector's edition

If you're an expert assassin, you can't just carry around your weapons in your hands. That attracts too much attention. A nice non-descript gun case is the way to go, which is what this collector's edition provides. Mind you, it doesn't have a gun inside. Instead, it contains a bullet keyring, rubber duck, and Agent 47's signature coin.

Pros
  • The case looks stunning
  • The case makes it easy to keep everything together
  • Nice choice of collectibles to go inside it

The gun case is one of the items most associated with Agent 47. A few of the others are his coins and rubber duck weapons. All of this is included in this collector's edition, making it a great choice for Hitman fans. What makes it better is that every item in the collection looks spectacular, and the overall presentation deserves plenty of praise, too. It's certainly an easy-on-the-eye edition.

Fallout 4 Pip Boy Edition
Best Prop Based Edition
Fallout 4 Pip Boy Edition

For all you wasteland dwellers

A Pip Boy is a vital tool if you're going to be roaming in a post apocalyptic wasteland. But if you're not, it still makes for a cool collectible for your shelf. Add to that the poster showing all of the game's Perks, and you're ready to take on the wasteland.

Pros
  • Life-sized Pip Boy makes for a great cosplay prop.
Cons
  • Pip Boy has trouble working with some newer phones.

Walking around with a Pip-Boy may get you a few looks. But the joke is on them, those people won't be as ready for the nuclear apocalypse as you. And if you don't want to wear it, it looks great when lit up and put on a shelf. Putting up the Perks poster next to it will create a nice little Fallout 4 nook.

God Of War Ragnarok Jotnar Edition
Best Weapon Based Edition
God Of War Ragnarok Jotnar Edition

Fit for a God

The God of War Ragnarok Jotnar Edition bestows upon you the weapon of a god. And if being able to wield Mjolnir wasn't enough, it also includes a number of collectibles like the Draupnir Ring, a cloth map of Yggdrasil, and wooden carvings of Vanir Twins. In game items include Darkdale skins for Kratos and Atreus.

Pros
  • Includes a wide variety of items.
  • In-game items are great visually and stats-wise.

It's hard to compete with a collector's edition that gives you the weapon of Thor. The replica of Mjolnir is faithfully adapted from the game, complete with intricate runes and encrusted hilt. If that wasn't enough, it comes with a number of physical treats and in-game goodies as well. But let's face it, the hammer is the selling point.

Cyberpunk 2077: Collector's Edition
Best In-Action Model
Cyberpunk 2077 Collector's Edition

Wake up collector, we have some goodies to buy

While Cyberpunk 2077's launch was rough, CD Projekt Red worked on the game until it was good. The Collector's Edition features a number of in-universe items, like a map of Night City, as well as a tourist guide, but the standout feature is the ten-inch statue of V jumping off a motorcycle.

Pros
  • In-action statue is a real eye-catcher.
Cons
  • Supporting items aren't that great.

Despite Cyberpunk 2077's disastrous launch, the game is now properly playable, and is even being positively reviewed by many. If you gave it a skip at launch because of all the negative press, you can try it out now without any fear. The Collector's Edition features some neat little Night City goodies, and a massive statue of V jumping from a motorcycle.

Doom Eternal Collector's Edition
Best Wearable Collector's Edition
Doom Eternal Collector's Edition

In case you plan on going to Hell

Like the previous entry, the Doom Eternal Collector's Edition will also come of use in case of emergencies, especially demonic invasions. The only problem is that anyone who visits you will want to put it on. Hopefully, it doesn't induce a strong urge to rip and tear.

Pros
  • Helmet is wearable.
  • The lorebook makes the story much clearer.
  • The lithograph makes for a great frame to hang.

Yes, the helmet is obviously the coolest feature of the Doom Eternal Collector's Edition, but the cassette tape is a great nod to the era in which the original game launched, and the lithograph will look great hanging on your wall. As for the in-game items - a flaming Doom Slayer is more fearsome than a regular one.

FAQ

Are Collector's Editions Worth The Value?

That's a personal choice to make, but there are a few objective qualities we can look at. Many of these editions include the game, and in most cases, that's a $60+ value alone. Others may include DLC vouchers or in-game currencies that, when translated to their microtransaction cost, can make it almost a steal. A good example of this is preorders of WoW expansions, which typically come with exclusive items, the expansion, in-game services like leveling boosts, and a month or so of game time. Adding these items together can give you a "true value" of the collector's edition to see if you're wasting your money on some random display item you'll toss into your closet during spring-cleaning.

How Long Do I Have To Buy A Collector's Edition?

Typically, a collector's edition has a limited number available. How long you have will depend on how many people want to buy it before you. It's best to act fast, so you don't get stuck with FOMO.

Where Can I Buy A Collector's Edition?

They're usually easy to find in gaming stores. You should also try the official online retailers. Some manufacturers will only release their editions here, such as Blizzard's collector's edition for Diablo IV. That limited release was only available from the official Blizzard gear store and it still sold out fast, so keep your eyes open.
