      Audience Member High expectations lead to more dissapointment than this okay-ish series deserves. It may be one of Mike Flanagan's weakest, but still a good watch. Rated 3 out of 5 stars 03/22/24 Full Review Some Guy F Mike Flannagan's mediocre writing is usually escalated by the visuals. This one doesn't even have visuals, and the writing is also the weakest of anything of his I've seen. On top of that, some of the performances are absolutely cringeworthy, his little troupe of actors barely acts in their native accents, they shouldn't try other accents. The series is also wildly inconsistent with it's rules, which seems to be the way it goes for most of Flannagan's work, it just makes things up on the fly, then disregards them. But the back stories for the ghosts who haunt the house were, I hate to say it, lame. Well made, however the series drags and generally lacks any sort of thrill or reward. The cast doesn't mesh, and the stories just don't evoke much empathy or intrigue. Also, the portions with the kids just simply drag and feel way too bogged down. Unfortunately, the kids portion is roughly 65% of the series. Flanagan's a a genius, but not his best work.
