Amadeus

Amadeus

In the final week of term Canford’s talented Drama pupils tackled Peter Schaffer’s award-winning classic, Amadeus.

In this production, performed over two nights, dying Salieri, Court Composer, looks back at his struggle with mediocrity, thrown into sharp relief by his assessment of the young and explosive Mozart. Recognising divinely given talent, which he himself is aware he does not possess, Salieri embarks on a mission of vengeance, set against the sumptuous music of his nemesis.

Rikki Jackson, Director of Drama, commented:

The production was a bold re-imagining of Peter Shaffer’s Amadeus with strong performances and gorgeous set design. The classic play, performed on the Layard Theatre stage, by the cast of 20 and crew of 10, was given a wholly contemporary feel that brought the rivalry of Salieri and Mozart vividly to life.

Locations were projected on to the set which represented a sheet of music and chandeliers designed and built by the technical team brought huge elegance to the stage set. Lighting was designed by Sixth Form pupil, Will L. Millie J as Salieri was on stage for the entire performance and Lottie CC sang Mozart’s Arias live on stage.
