Netflix Faces Backlash Over Alleged AI Images in True Crime Doc, Producer Responds
Netflix had conjured up some backlash with the alleged use of AI imagery for a new true crime documentary, but a producer says that's not the case.

The official synopsis for Atlas is as follows: "Atlas Shepherd (Jennifer Lopez), a brilliant but misanthropic data analyst with a deep distrust of artificial intelligence, joins a mission to capture a renegade robot with whom she shares a mysterious past. But when plans go awry, her only hope of saving the future of humanity from AI is to trust it."

Along with Lopez and Simu Liu (Barbie), the film also stars Sterling K. Brown (This Is Us), Gregory James Cohan (The VelociPastor), Abraham Popoola (The Marvels), Lana Parrilla (Once Upon a Time), and Mark Strong (Shazam! Fury of the Gods). Netflix's Live-Action One Piece Gets Big Change Behind the Scenes Ahead of Season 2
The live-action version of One Piece currently available on Netflix gets a change with its production ahead of Season 2.

“The heart of Atlas is really about trust and how difficult it is to trust people,” Brad Peyton said of the film, per Netflix. “Atlas is told through the lens of a woman who’s learning to trust after undergoing a trauma that’s upended her life. It’s a reminder of how we have to have deep, meaningful relationships in our lives, in one way, shape, or form. That you can’t do everything by yourself; you have to choose to trust people at a certain point and let them in.”

Lopez added, "I loved that this is a big sci-fi action movie, but at its core, it’s a story of friendship — and a love story, in a way. I always see everything as a love story, but this is a different kind of love between two beings who connect in disastrous circumstances, and teach each other how to be more human.”

Jennifer Lopez Is Also Producing Atlas

Lopez is producing alongside Elaine Goldsmith-Thomas and Benny Medina for Nuyorican Productions; Brad Peyton and Jeff Fierson for ASAP Entertainment; Joby Harold and Tory Tunnell for Safehouse Pictures; and Greg Berlanti and Sarah Schechter for Berlanti/Schechter Films. Samson Mucke and Michael Riley McGrath are executive producing.

Atlas will premiere on Netflix on Friday, May 24, 2024.
