Roger Martin Smith

May 8, 1940 - April 18, 2024

Sacramento, California - Roger Smith, 83 years old, of Sacramento, passed away on April 18, 2024. Roger is survived by his wife Carole, his children Hilary, Courtney and Ryan; his son-in-law Brian; his grandchildren Hayden, Alden and Julien; his sister Eugenia and brother-in-law Jack; and niece and nephew Dorthy and David.

Roger was born and raised in Sacramento and attended Christian Brothers High School and San Jose State College. where he met his wife Carole, whom he married on June 26, 1965. After college Roger worked as an insurance agent and served in the Coast Guard Reserves. He later went on to have a long career at the Sacramento Rendering Co.

Roger was a lover of life and, even in hard times, always stayed positive. He cherished time with his friends hunting, fishing, golfing, cooking and drinking good wine. He was an avid runner, which led him to run the Sacramento Marathon in 1989. Music was also a huge part of his life, a passion he shared with his son Ryan.

Roger was a deeply loved father, son, brother, uncle and friend. In Roger, we lost a kind, gentle soul who was fiercely devoted to his family and friends. He will be greatly missed.

A Celebration of Life will be held at the Valley Hi Country Club, 9595 Franklin Blvd. Elk Grove, on October 20, 2024 at 2pm where we invite you to come celebrate Roger and share memories. In lieu of flowers, the family requests donations be made to United Cerebral Palsy.
