The American Embassy School, New Delhi offers an American general academic, college-preparatory curriculum that is broadened and enriched by international best practices for pre-Kindergarten through grade 12. AES provides a balanced education defined by “the joyful pursuit of excellence” in academics, athletics, arts, and service. With a current enrollment of 1,120 students from more than 70 countries, the school honors all students’ unique abilities and aims to develop a culture of belonging and diversity. Finally, the school proudly asks all of its community members to live by its motto: “Enter to learn. Leave to serve.” AES is accredited by the Middle States Association of Colleges and Schools. The school’s assessments incorporate the Northwest Evaluation Association (NWEA)’s Measures of Academic Progress (MAP) from KG to grade 10. AES is an exclusive host site for AES students to take the Scholastic Aptitude Test (SAT), and the Preliminary Scholastic Aptitude Test (PSAT) which is an optional test for students in grades 10 and 11. Applicants should meet the AES guidelines. See the website link: www.aes.ac.in/admissions/admissions-requirements .

Organization: The school is governed by a nine-member board of governors, of which seven are elected for a term of two years by the American Embassy School Association of New Delhi (the sponsor of the School). The U.S. Ambassador then appoints two non-voting members. Membership in the Association is automatically conferred on the parents or guardians of children enrolled in the school. Members also include teachers.

Curriculum: The AES school year consists of two semesters: early August to mid-December and early January to the end of May. The elementary school through grade 10 uses AERO Common Core Plus Standards for core and academic content areas which is supported through the U.S. State Department’s Office of Overseas Schools. AES has offered the International Baccalaureate (IB) Diploma Program since 1982; this program continues to evolve providing students with a wide array of IB courses for a school our size. New and open to rising grade 11 students, the Institute for Design and Innovation (IDI) is our most recent curricular initiative that will empower students to design personalized pathways to graduation based on individual passions and long-term goals. AES also offers some Advanced Placement (AP) courses and an extensive range of other electives, ensuring that every student can find an appropriately challenging pathway to earning a US high school diploma. Instruction is in English with World Language options available. English-as-an-Additional-Language (EAL) is offered for non-English speaking students.

Facilities: The school is situated on a 13-acre beautiful green campus; there are numerous modern, well-equipped buildings, comparable to those of excellent U.S. private schools. Two libraries, a swimming pool, two gyms, and a performing arts center are included. New classroom spaces for pre-K to grades 6, the Extended Services Program (ESP) in elementary school, and the Institute for Design and Innovation (IDI) classrooms in high school have recently been renovated or added to create more flexible, collaborative, personalized learning spaces. Plans to expand upon these campus improvements, especially classroom spaces for the upper grades, are in the works for the future. Outdoor activities are a crucial part of AES learning, so the school has invested in the athletics and play fields. The school has also invested heavily in effective clean air systems for all indoor spaces and always closely monitors the relevant data.
