Jason Donovan to star in The Rocky Horror Show in the UK, plus new UK tour dates & Christmas season at the Liverpool Playhouse [Updated]
Jason Donovan is back in The Rocky Horror Show stage musical this year, playing Frank 'N' Furter for a limited run at Trafalgar Theatres' new venue Fareham Live. Neighbours star Jason Donovan first made his West End debut way back in 1991 playing Joseph in the London revival of Joseph and the Amazing Technicolor Dreamcoat, and has gone on to have a successful stage career, with credits including Priscilla Queen of the Desert, and Grease The Musical. Richard O'Brien's The Rocky Horror Show will play Fareham Live from 1 to 5 October 2024 starring Jason Donovan. Fareham Live is a new 800-seater venue, with a secondary studio space. Jason is no stranger to playing Frank 'N' Furter, having played the role last year in the Australian production, and is currently playing the role in Sydney. On Donovan's Sydney performance, a Guardian review today said that "with a little sweetness and a lot of flirtation, the one-time Neighbours heart-throb tackles Frank-N-Furter with a performance that plays just enough homage to Tim Curry’s now-iconic film performance to hit the familiar beats the audience seemed to crave, but adds enough of himself to keep things fresh." The Rocky Horror Show will also tour the UK in 2024, with dates including London's Churchill Theatre Bromley from 16 to 24 August 2024; High Wycombe Swan from 27 to 31 August 2024; Malvern Festival Theatre from 7 to 12 October 2024; Glasgow Pavilion Theatre from 28 October to 2 November 2024; Cardiff New Theatre from 4 to 9 November 2024; Sheffield Lyceum Theatre from 25 to 30 November 2024; and a Christmas 2024 season at Liverpool Playhouse Theatre from 3 December 2024 to 4 January 2025. Casting for these tour dates is yet to be confirmed, and there is no news on whether Jason Donovan will perform at any of the tour dates. Also further UK dates are to be announced. https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=5MVo-EMKYsc Jason Donovan said in a press statement: “I cannot wait to be on stage and to open Fareham Live with the legendary Rocky Horror Show. From the very first performance in London, Richard O’Brien created a show from the wilds of his imagination with incredible music that has now stood the test of time, and an awesome energy that befits its accolades and endurance. Quite simply, it’s a rock-n-roll show appealing to the cheeky side of us all!” The Rock Horror Show - Australia. Jason Donovan as Frank-N-Furter.
