Early Game
The best places to go in the early gamey(and still great spots later on) are the parks. Parks are filled with a lot of small items you can run through quickly to rack up those +1s. One big park is in the top left corner of the map and another is in the center of the map, towards the right. There are smaller parks scattered throughout.
Another good place to look for early game objects is the sidewalks. Construction areas with small cones are especially great.
While you'll usually want to keep moving as fast as you can, it's okay to be a little slower and make sure objects fall in at the start of a round.
Other Players
Don't follow other players around at the begining of a game. Because resources you can grab are so limited at the start you'll effectively be cutting each other's food supply in half, slowing your growth, and you won't be able to eat this other player until you've grown.
Be careful when chasing others. When you go after someone, they are eating on their way, leaving a more empty path behind them. This means that you will not be getting many points until you catch them. If the person is running away, it is often not worth your time to give chase unless they are a big catch.
Pay attention to the arrows telling you where other players are. Areas that have recently been cleaned up by other people have nothing to offer you. Also, if you are in the bottom half of the rankings it will alert you as to when people are on your tail and if you are in the top half of the rankings it can guide you to your next meal.
Once you've been eaten by another player, you can still move while you are waiting to be resurrected. Head away from the person who ate you or you'll find yourself perpetually at the bottom of the food chain.
General Strategies
In general, you should never stop moving as fast as you can. There are three exceptions to this rule. One, in the beginning of a round it is important to slow down to make sure that you actually collect everything you run over. Two, if you encounter an intersection that a lot of cars are heading towards you can stay there and wait for cars to fall in. Three, if you are going through a large clump of buildings you may want to slow down to make sure that things fall in instead of falling over.
Map Tips
Stay away from the edges of the map once you're able to eat cars. The biggest objects that spawn on the map's edges are benches and you'll find more abundant and higher value objects inward.
It is possible to cut through buildings if you need to get to somewhere specific or chase/avoid another player. More objects spawn along the sidewalks so it is more profitable to move along roads, but moving through buildings can keep your options open.
Rankings
As you play Hole.io, you'll rack up points. Coming in first in a round will give you twenty points, coming in second will give you ten, third gets five, fourth and fifth get two and sixth and seventh get one.
Once you get enough points to rank up, a threshold that starts at fifty points and increases by fifty from there, you'll get another star that will show up next to your hole as you move around. Once you reach three stars of a given color, the next rank up will bring you to one star of a new color. For example, three bronze stars will rank up to become one silver star. This cosmetic is the only effect of increasing your ranking.
