BRUNSWICK (WGME) --A student-led referendum calling on Bowdoin College to take a stance on the war in Gaza passed by a wide margin.

The results of the referendum were released on Monday.

Nearly 70 percent of the student body voted in favor.

The vote also called for Bowdoin to outline where investments are going.

Bowdoin President Safa Zaki says the college will not issue an institutional statement in keeping with common practice.

But it will review the other requests over the summer after board members meet with a group of students on both sides of the issue.

This comes after 84 professors at the school signed a letter in support of students and their cause. They also support the students' right to protest.
