Our 15-county region is on track to reach 3.15 million residents by 2050. That’s nearly a million more people in about 25 years. LinkUS is our region’s proactive transportation and growth plan — collaboratively created by COTA, the City of Columbus, the Franklin County Board of Commissioners and the Mid-Ohio Regional Planning Commission (MORPC) — to accommodate this major population growth by expanding COTA transit service and other transportation options, like sidewalks, bike lanes and trails, throughout the region. This investment into our region’s transportation system will create more walkable, connected communities and increase opportunity for all.
What is LinkUS?
A Plan to Increase COTA Service & Transportation Options Across Central Ohio
LinkUS’ plans to bring world-class transit to Central Ohio include:
- 45% more COTA service hours on fixed-route lines
- New and improved sidewalks, bike lanes, trails and crosswalks
- Construction of COTA Bus Rapid Transit (BRT) lines
- More micro-transit options connected to bus stations
- Intersection improvements
- Additional COTA//Plus zones for on-demand transit
By the Numbers
Today, the vast majority of people in the Central Ohio region drive alone for their commute and have a long trek to the nearest trailhead. LinkUS will create more transportation options, increasing access to jobs, housing, greenspace and entertainment.
3.15 Million in the Central Ohio Region by 2050
According to the last census, Columbus is one of only 14 cities in the country that added over 100,000 people in the past 10 years.
85.6% Drive Alone for Their Commute
That’s a lot of cars on our highways! In just 25 years, we’ll have 726,000 more people, which is why smart transportation planning is critical.
81,970 Jobs Within 40 Minutes Via Transit
The first three LinkUS projects — or “corridors” — will create access to more than 380,000 jobs!
13.6% Live Within a Half-mile Walk of a Trail
LinkUS will expand and connect trails — or as we like to call them, “greenways” — to create vibrant, green communities.
