Of Things Past

Golden Globe and three-time Emmy winner, Michael Moriarty, returns to the big screen starring in the dramatic film, Of Things Past, with costars Louise Caire Clark and Tara Reid. Filmed in
1985 as The 15th Time Around, the movie was reimagined by TGA Productions and Cedar Films Studios, with an additional storyline shot in 2022. Never seen before, the two movies are now one, becoming, Of Things Past.

Filmed in the mountains of Mammoth Lakes, CA., and inspired by true events, Of Things Past tells the moving story of Michael and Laura Dietrich (played by Michael Moriarty and Louise
Caire Clark), a young couple struggling to save their marriage after the tragic loss of their two-year-old son.

Michael, a physician’s assistant, saves the life of a young girl, Kiki, seriously injured in an automobile accident. In saving her life, he begins to forgive himself for the death of his son. Nearly forty years later, as Michael is dying, an adult Kiki (played by Tara Reid) visits Laura (reprised by Ms. Clark) in Boston, revealing details of long-held secrets—the pain of betrayal and the power of forgiveness.

Directed by Eric Rafael Ibarra and D. Paul Thomas; scripted by Thomas, Pete Bollinger, and Frank Dent; cinematography by Fred Paddock and Stephen Vanderpool; prosthetics by Oscar

Director Statement

The director of the new film, Eric Ibarra: What fun it’s been working on this unique project—taking a movie filmed 37 years ago and adding to it an updated storyline, shot in 2022, by bringing back two of the female characters in the original movie who reveal some of the secrets that have taken place in the ensuing years. Louise Caire Clark, reprising her role as Laura Dietrich, was amazingly courageous and transparent in her performance as the elder Laura. Not too many actors are up for this. I’m not sure if it’s ever been done before. Tara Reid was
amazing as well, delivering a vulnerable and sensitive performance as the adult Kiki, the little girl in the original movie who survives a violent accident. Putting the two films together, one shot years ago in 35mm for TV (with only a 1-inch Betamax surviving in storage!), and the newer one filmed with modern digital cameras, has been a fascinating and, yes, challenging process. A big shoutout to Fotokem, CFI, Audionamix, and composer Amanuel Zarzowski for their work in helping us
bring this one-of-a-kind movie to the screen … at last!

The director of the old film, D. Paul Thomas: If you live long enough, you see nearly everything. Who would have thought that a movie filmed in 1985 that never saw the light of day (that’s a long story!), with lovely performances by Michael Moriarty and Louise Claire Clark, would be “reimagined” by filmmaker Peter J.Bollinger and brought to the screen as two films in one? A special shoutout to “Dr. Sam” Mayhugh, who shepherded the entire project through to a successful conclusion, and to the splendid ensemble in the original film, including the talented
Catherine McNeal, the wonderful artist Gary Bayer, the great character actor Macon McCalman, and Eraserhead’s inimitable star, Jack Nance. Add to that roster the multi-talented Michael Moriarty in an Oscar-worthy performance and the moving portrayals by Ms. Clark and Tara Reid (as you’ve never seen her before!) and you have a distinctive movie. In many ways, it’s an old-fashioned story—the eternal story of betrayal and forgiveness. Enjoy the journey!
