A quiet market with many different stalls run by different vendors. We have purchased typical Guatemalan things here also on our last visit. One particular vendor is beneath the sign that says Tecun Uman. The couple that run this little shop are fair and a pleasure to do business with.

The Mercado de Artesanias is a great market with many small shops that offer almost any Guatemalan souvenir you can think of. The price is mid-range but it is clean, safe and organized. It is very close to the airport and is also only a 5-10 minute taxi ride from most of the major hotels. This is a great place to shop especially if you only have a few hours. They also have a great restaurant called Don Emiliano that we ate at. Some of the best tacos and steak that I have ever had.

This market is in a location near the airport. It consists of a number (perhaps 40) different shops, each carrying handmade merchandise from across the country such as textiles, ceramics, wood carvings, jewelry plus the usual caps, t-shirts, souvenirs, etc. It is clean and well organized and very secure. Shopkeepers are welcoming and there is no hard sell. Bargaining is possible. The prices are reasonable but perhaps a little higher than you would pay in other, less organized markets. A good place to buy gifts for people of all ages and tastes.

Beware - I withdrew 2000 quetzales from the 5B ATM at The Mercado de Artesanias near the airport Saturday 01/02/2016. I checked my bank account on Monday, 01/04/2016, and saw a withdrawal from the same ATM at the Mercado de Artesania was made Sunday, 01/03/2016 - when I was nowhere near the place. Furthermore, the amount was > 2000 ( 2100 if I use 7.62/1 exchange) - but the limit I was told was 2000 at the ATM. Or some odd amount that isn't divisible by the 100 quetzal notes the ATM dispenses ($276.31).
At any rate - I suspect an inside bank job.....BEWARE

Mercado de Artesanias La Aurora is strictly shopping for Guatemalan clothing, jewelry and souvenirs. It's a small quiet market near the airport with lots of stalls. All the stalls are colorful and fun to wonder through. There's a paid parking lot with an attendant on property.

I bought many craft gifts for friends and family. Loved the products. A recommendation: It is worth to explore the farther stands and stores and to discuss the bargains with the salepersons. Most of the stores will sell the same or similar products, but the bigger ones and nearer to the entrance will charge almost double than the ones more distant to the entrance (and to the right hand), I had the chance to compare this in my two visits to the market.

This is the main artisanal market in Guatemala City. The choice is better in Antigua, but there is a fair selection of the local products.

The is a variety of beautiful items here, and fairly low key for a tourist shopping area. We were barely hassled at all, and enjoyed our walk through.
