Oakland High School Reviews
Rating 3.42 out of 5 497 reviews
In my four years at Oakland High School, I've had an overall pleasant experience. I grew a lot emotionally and academically, and have seen the school culture grow to be very fun! For example, we have a wide array of clubs, from theater, to lion dance, to robotics and quiz bowl. I'm a part of the newscast, who creates monthly videos on what's going on in school. We also have fun assemblies that cultural clubs put on to share culture. There are AP's and dual enrollments offered, and we have a great future center where you can get help to become more college-ready (these 3 things helped me out a lot). Although this is a big change, I would love to see the main building re-built to be more open and inviting with better ventilation, instead of boxy with no windows or AC.
In terms of safety Oakland in general is not a safe place but I have rarely experienced any sever life-threatening experiences at OHigh except for false threats that were handled pretty appropriately by the administration.
The best thing about Oakland high school is the care and thought that teachers put into their students learning. My teacher have dedicated hours into rigorous course that can fit all students learning abilities and helps everyone develop as student to be prepared for future experiences. The worst part about my school is that staff don’t enforce rules that they put in place as much as they should. Because of this issue, students choose to take advantage of the problem and abuse it. Some change that I would like to see in my school is stricter enforcement of their policies and more resources for student athletes, such as equipment that can help sport teams become more efficient.
