No doubt that the operator has put in great effort to set up this open range, but it needs more animals, especially the local Australian ones like Koala bear. The walking tour is not up to expectation, as some areas are well setup, but could not see the animals. The safari tour is good with good commentator but need more animals to be attractive.

The first thing I have to say is don’t go to these place during a dust storm or before rain. The dust on the safari trail bus has no cover from dust nor seat belts for kids. Also it was hard to hear the driver. The zoo was not great with the feel of a conservation for climate change zoo. Lots of QR codes and drinking glasses for compost. But need more interaction stuff for people who don’t u QR codes. Also the buses have no way for a person with a cane or wheelchair too get on it.

My wife and I visited this Zoo recently, during a holiday where we stayed at a holiday apartment in Point Cook.
This was our second visit. During our previous visit last year, we had paid extra for the Deluxe Safari Tour. This time around, we decided to try the normal Safari Tour which is included in the General Admission Ticket.
We were lucky to see the three lion cubs at feeding time and watched them eat a chunk of raw meat. We were also lucky to see the three Gorillas at feeding time and watched them eat celery.
We will return next year to see the new and very large Elephant Closure that is currently under construction.

Great zoo. Loved the whole atmosphere. The animals looked well cared for, there was a free safari and plenty of places to stop and eat/drink and get some souvenirs! The prices are expensive imo, but no more then I expect to pay at an attraction like this.
The meerkat cafe was a lovely place to eat, it was easy to order and the food/drink was lovely.

Looked forward to a family day at the zoo. Well to our surprise we had to walk nearly a kilometre through the car park, thank god we purchased our tickets online, the line to purchase ticket was so backed up. We entered the Zoo was looking at going onto the Safari ride, we arrived just after opening, we were told it could take up to two hours. So gave that idea up, so upon trying to get through the crowd, we managed to see, a couple of African dags, a couple of lions, three hippos, two monkeys and a couple of emus. The so called Australian area was crap, nothing to see but an empty shearing shed. The reptile display was a bunch of photos of reptiles. Lunch after standing around for a while we were able to get a table, the only good thing of the day, we did not get ripped off for the food. I did talk to one person who was serving, working the butt off, they were not happy with the amount of people in the park. After lunch checked out the safari line, now with a wait of three hours. Decided to go for a short walk, sorry too many people around, so decided to give up the day, go home have a couple of beers. If you are thinking of going to the Zoo during holiday forget about it. To the people who run this shambles, think about the amount of people you let into the Zoo on any given day. Think of the people who are visiting and want to enjoy a day. This will be the first and last visit.

It was fantastic to get on the tour bus within minutes, especially because of school holidays. The tour guide was excellent full of information and good character. We were lucky and had a good view of al of the animals.

May I ask which timings for Off Road Safari would be recommended?
Kitty
Melbourne, Australia71 contributions
As you enter the zoo, make your way to the safari bus area as early as possible. It’s at the back of the zoo, on the right hand side. The lines can get long, but the advantage is there is more than one safari bus going at the same time. So the wait is not unbearable.
Enjoy 🐘

Hi, do i need to buy the offroad safari tickets to go around and experience the safari ? does the admission tickets allows me to experience the safari too? its quite a steep fee for the offroad for a family of four

A 40 minute free safari is included with your entry. It travels a dirt track. The offroad is another experience where your small vehicle goes off the track, very close to the animals. The free safari is wonderful. Enjoy!
Can I hire a car for the walking section of the zoo?

Wheelchairs are available for $20 refundable deposit and photo ID. There is a golf buggy driven by volunteer guides to take you around the paths, which is best if booked before your visit.

How can I get to the zoo from the Werribee mansion?
We are planning to visit both the zoo and the mansion in Werribee
Also we are based in Melbourne city near the southern cross station .. how can I get to the zoo from there by public transport
Many thanks

Its hard to get there by public transport - you can get a train easy enough - get the Werribee train - but you then have to find a way to the zoo which is a good couple of kms from the station (I believe there is a bus but unsure of times and bus number so you may need to check with bus co.) alternatively get train to Werribee and catch a taxi from the station. enjoy

Hi Matthew. Welcome to Melbourne. If you get a train to Werribee Station, you can catch a bus which goes to The Mansion AND the Zoo. The bus route number is 439. Good luck and I'm positive you'll enjoy both venues.
