Vote up the Encanto characters that charm you the most.

Contrary to what the lyrics of the popular song may have you believe, we most definitely DO talk about Bruno, along with the rest of the Madrigal family, quite often. The Encanto characters charmed audiences from the moment the movie came out in 2021, and, since then, they've made themselves a casita in fans' hearts and minds.

Although Encanto underperformed at the box office, it became a massive hit once it was released on Disney+. There was no way to escape the music from the film; but it wasn't just Lin Manuel Miranda's music that made audiences obsessed, it was all of the different members of the Madrigal family, and the rest of the characters that complete the Encanto universe. Though it's hard to choose, take a look through all the wonderful characters and vote for your favorites.

    Bruno

    Voiced By: John Leguizamo

Why We Love Him: We should talk about Bruno, yes, yes, yes. It doesn't take someone who can see the future like Bruno to know he has a big role to play in Encanto. From his cloaked, hunched design, to the way the rest of the family is uncomfortable at the mere mention of his name, it's easy to assume Bruno is a villain - but that's what makes Bruno so wonderful. He's odd, quiet, shy, and he's friends with rats, but he's not a bad guy. His poor reputation stems from miscommunications surrounding his powers, and really isn't his fault at all. Despite all of the hardships he faces, especially becoming cut off from his family, Bruno remains kind-hearted, caring, and hilarious.

Most Memorable Moment: Mirabel chasing Bruno through the walls is one of the best sequences in the movie. When she finally catches up to him, she learns that Bruno has been living in the hollows of the house, repairing the cracks, entertaining himself with only his pet rats and their made up telenovelas. His lonely situation sheds light on the full depth of the Madrigal family dynamic. In only a few minutes, the audience's entire perception of Bruno changes.

    Mirabel

    Voiced By: Stephanie Beatriz

Why We Love Her: For most of the movie it appears, Mirabel doesn't have any powers, but by the end, it's clear that she's the glue holding her family together. She's quirky, loving, and a little bit awkward, but that's what makes her endlessly relatable. Mirabel is the only one willing to face the reality that their miracle is fading, and she takes it upon herself to save the magic. Simply put, she's a hero. Plus, her luscious curls are enough to make anyone jealous.

Most Memorable Moment: “The Family Madrigal” is not only one of the catchiest songs in the movie, it's also the perfect introduction to Mirabel and her home. She takes us through each and every member of her family, highlighting what makes them special. This song immediately shows us how attentive and caring Mirabel is towards those around her.

    Antonio

    Voiced By: Ravi Cabot-Conyers

Why We Love Him: Antonio may be the youngest Madrigal, but he has the biggest heart by far. He's gifted with the power to communicate with animals, and he seems more comfortable talking to them than to people. One person he does like to talk to, though, is his cousin Mirabel. While he may be shy, Antonio is fiercely loyal and loves every member of his family. Arguably, his greatest talent of all is that he's absolutely adorable.

Most Memorable Moment: One of the first scenes in Encanto is Antonio's fifth birthday - the day he will be blessed with his miracle, gaining a magical power that will allow him to help his family and his village. When Mirabel finds him hiding under her bed, nervous about the ceremony, pretty much everyone in the audience will feel the urge to rush in and hug him. Someone so pure and innocent shouldn't be feeling such deep fear and anxiety. It's a great scene that perfectly establishes the bond between Mirabel and Antonio.

    Abuelo (Pedro)

Voiced By: Pedro is the only member of the Madrigal family to have no speaking lines.

Why We Love Him: Though he isn't on screen much, Abuelo Pedro's impact is felt throughout the movie. If he hadn't sacrificed himself to save Abuela and the triplets, the Madrigal family as we know them would probably not exist. This sacrifice is what introduces magic into their lives, as after his death, Abuela's candle transforms into a magical candle, becoming the source of all the miracles to follow.

Most Memorable Moment: It's hard not to cry seeing Abuelo and Abuela's romance develop in a flashback while “Dos Oruguitas” is playing. They fall in love, get married, and have the triplets; it truly seems like they have the perfect life. That's what makes it so much more heartbreaking when they're forced to flee - and all the more inspiring when Abuelo decides to face the soldiers himself, giving his family and the villagers time to escape.

    Félix

    Voiced By: Mauro Castillo

Why We Love Him: This man is head over heels in love with Pepa. It's impossible to doubt the integrity of Félix's commitment to his wife. He married into the Madrigal family and therefore doesn't have a magical gift, but his care-free, positive nature is enough to bring joy into any room. He's a wonderful husband, father, and uncle, all in one. Félix also doesn't mind talking about Bruno, despite the fact that he apparently ruined Félix and Pepa's wedding day.

Most Memorable Moment: After the chaotic family dinner where everyone's powers start going haywire, Abuela tells Pepa to control her emotions because she's causing a snowstorm. Without missing a beat, Félix stands up for his wife, which takes some courage, considering Abuela's status in the family. Afterwards, he's more than willing to help out with the storm cloud without being asked. Now that's a loving husband.

    Luisa

    Voiced By: Jessica Darrow

Why We Love Her: Name any character, fictional or not, that can carry as many donkeys as Luisa. We'll wait. Luisa is the epitome of what it means to be a middle child. She's hardworking, determined, reliable, so the whole family constantly uses her as their rock. Luisa's super-strength makes her incredibly eager to help in any way, shape or form she can, and she's the most obviously generous member of the Madrigal family. Even though she rarely gets as much as a “thank you,” Luisa never refuses any request, and she does everything she's asked without complaining.

Most Memorable Moment: It's not easy to have everyone counting on you, but for a while, Luisa refuses to accept the strain that her gift is putting on her. When she's able to admit her true feelings in the song “Surface Pressure,” it's extremely cathartic. Luisa is scared of cracking under the pressure of everyone's expectations, and rightfully so. It's a great reminder that no matter how strong someone may appear on the outside, they may be dealing with major struggles internally. Also, it helps that the song is a straight-up bop.

    Julieta

    Voiced By: Angie Cepeda

Why We Love Her: Who doesn't love food? Now, imagine the most delicious food to ever exist, which also happens to have magical healing properties. That's Julieta's power, and it is amazing. She's maternal not only towards her daughters, Mirabel, Luisa and Isabela, but also towards her entire family, plus the other villagers. Her caring and supportive nature shines through in her interactions with everyone she comes in contact with. Additionally, Julieta appears to be fully in control of her abilities, always eager to whip up an arepa for someone in need.

Most Memorable Moment: Julieta loves her mother, but she's also clearly aware of the unfair pressure Abuela places on Mirabel. Plenty of times throughout the movie, Julieta chastises Abuela for being too hard on her. She also does everything she can to make sure that Mirabel knows she doesn't need magic. It's incredibly heartwarming when Julieta heals Mirabel's cut on her hand with a fresh arepa, while reminding her that she's just as special as anyone else in the family, gift or no gift.

    Camilo

    Voiced By: Rhenzy Feliz

Why We Love Him: Camilo's siblings might describe him as slightly obnoxious, but that's only because Camilo is a born entertainer. He's social and charismatic, so it's difficult not to love him. Gifted with the ability to shape-shift, Camilo constantly plays around with his powers to make the people around him laugh. He definitely seems like he'd be a total blast at parties.

Most Memorable Moment: Transforming into his sister Dolores so he can sneak another helping of Julieta's delicious food is a true stroke of brilliance. Plus, viewers have got to respect the portions he serves himself. The boy's got a healthy appetite, and that is something that deserves admiration in and of itself.

    Dolores

    Voiced By: Adassa

Why We Love Her: The fact that Dolores has super-hearing, yet doesn't reveal to the rest of the family that Bruno has been hiding in the walls for years, tells you everything you need to know about her. She's loyal, she loves her family, and she'll do anything she can to help. Dolores is a little bit quiet throughout most of the film, but she's not opposed to partaking in some tasteful gossip - as most people do.

Most Memorable Moment: Viewers will naturally cheer when Dolores builds up the courage and the confidence to finally confess her feelings to Mariano. When she finds her voice and professes her love, Mariano is swept off his feet. Who wouldn't be? Then, the fact that she tells him to slow down when he suggests they get married is simply too perfect. Well played, Dolores.

    Pepa

    Voiced By: Carolina Gaitán

Why We Love Her: Arguably the single most relatable character in all of Encanto, Pepa is anxious and has a bit of a temper, but she always means well. She doesn't love the drama - the drama loves her. Pepa has spent her entire life being told to control her emotions, which is certainly more challenging when your emotions literally control the weather. Despite her high-strung nature, she is very caring towards her family, and she clearly adores her husband, Félix.

Most Memorable Moment: For someone who doesn't want to talk about Bruno, she sure spends a lot of time singing about him. Pepa provides the lead vocal in “We Don't Talk About Bruno,” which most movie fans have probably heard even if they haven't seen Encanto, since it became the biggest hit from the soundtrack. In extremely catchy fashion, Pepa does a wonderful job of explaining the family's complex relationship to Bruno.

    Agustín

    Voiced By: Wilmer Valderrama

Why We Love Him: If audiences had any questions about where Mirabel gets her clumsiness from, Agustín quickly answers those. He's constantly getting hurt, which is why it's convenient his wife can heal any and all of his injuries with her cooking. No matter how awkward and clumsy he may be, Agustín loves his family, and he understands Mirabel's feelings of isolation more than anyone else does.

Most Memorable Moment: Agustín is the first one to find out what Mirabel saw in Bruno's vision, and he is immediately supportive. He understands the gravity of the situation, and knowing they're about to go into an important dinner, he does his best to keep it a secret. That dinner ends up being catastrophic, of course, and the secret inevitably gets out, but seeing the lengths Agustín goes to protect his daughter, without even thinking, is beyond wholesome.

    Isabela

    Voiced By: Diane Guerrero

Why We Love Her: “Señorita Perfecta,” as Mirabel calls her, is the golden child of the Madrigal family. She's beautiful, graceful, brilliant, and literally conjures magical flowers and plants that can take anyone's breath away. At first glance, she doe seem to be perfect, and anyone with siblings knows how irritating that can be for those around her. Still, it's clear from the jump that one of Isabela's biggest priorities is making her family proud. She takes it upon herself to maintain the Madrigal legacy as she understands it. It may not be obvious initially, but she's willing to sacrifice her own happiness and comfort to do what she feels is “right” for the family.

Most Memorable Moment: During “What Else Can I Do?,” Isabela abandons the idea of being perfect all of the time, and finally embraces the uncertainty and joy of figuring out who she wants to be. The sisterly connection between her and Mirabel grows stronger than ever, and Isabela's power manifests in ways not seen before. This song also allows viewers to glimpse her inner turmoil and her constant struggle to live up to expectations.

    Abuela (Alma)

    Voiced By: María Cecilia Botero

Why We Love Her: Encanto may not have a villain in the traditional sense, but Abuela Alma is certainly the antagonist of the film. On the surface, she appears cold, harsh and judgmental. There's an unforgiving quality about her that can make it hard for viewers to connect with her as a character. As the movie progresses, however, it becomes clear that Abuela has put up emotional walls over the years to protect not only herself and her family, but the entire village. When she was young, she lost her home and her beloved husband, but she didn't allow that to be the end of her story. She started over, building a safe space for those she loved. Understanding her protective nature makes it easier to look past her rude remarks - especially after she apologizes to her family for her high expectations.

Most Memorable Moment: Abuela and Mirabel's reunion by the river is one of the most emotional moments of the movie. It's the first time Abuela truly lets down her guard and invites Mirabel into her world. She finally opens up and reveals the source of her trauma, which allows Mirabel to be there for her in a way she never had before. That reconciliation makes it clear that Abuela is a good person with a loving heart, and it's undeniably heartwarming to watch them rebuild Casita together.

    Mariano

    Voiced By: Maluma

Why We Love Him: The fact that Dolores loves him is more than enough confirmation about the quality of his character. Mariano clearly cares about his physique, too, which demonstrates discipline. Add that to his kind disposition, and his overall romantic nature, and you've got a great guy.

Most Memorable Moment: Mariano leading the villagers to help rebuild Casita is a testament to the type of man he is. Isabela may have broken his heart, and his nose (twice), but that doesn't keep him from helping out the Madrigals in their time of need. It all works out for Mariano in the end, as Dolores confesses her feelings for him, and they make a perfect match.

    Juancho

    Voiced By: Ezra Rudulph

Why We Love Him: Also known as “Pumped Juancho,” this little boy runs on caffeine. Wether or not a child his age should be drinking that much coffee is not the topic at hand. Anyone who's tasted Colombian coffee knows how hard it is to resist. Sure, his eye is constantly twitching, but that just makes him cuter.

Most Memorable Moment: Juancho knows how to put all of that coffee he's drinking to good use. At the end of the movie, when the whole town is rebuilding Casita, no one moves as fast Juancho. Chugging coffee and hammering nails - what a legend.

    Osvaldo

    Voiced By: Juan Castano

Why We Love Him: A lot of people are careful about what they say, but not Osvaldo. This is someone you can trust to be honest with you. He tells it like it is, which may sound harsh, but hey - the truth hurts sometimes. Anyone looking for sugarcoating or comfort should keep moving, but for those wanting a dose of reality, Osvaldo's the man.

Most Memorable Moment: Osvaldo bluntly reminding Mirabel that she's the only member of the Madrigal family without any special magical gift is a wonderful introduction to his character. There's no malice behind his words, but it's obviously a touchy subject for Mirabel. It's played for laughs in the moment, yet it becomes much more significant later on as other characters continue to comment on her lack of powers. At least Osvaldo isn't mean or condescending about it.
