They say wine improves with age,I think it worked with the Buckingham's.I was familiar with a few of their hits when I was younger and I recently acquired a copy of their TERRA FIRMA CD and I was floored. Where have these guys been all these years! This is no rehash of their former music, this is totally new recordings and I can't stop playing it.Their songs NO TURNING BACK and I THINK ABOUT YOU are very reflective.The songs SAY IT AIN'T LOVE and NOTHING LEFT TO CLING TO are very strong and had me humming them all day.The song 99.9 conjures up the feeling your in a movie and you get lost in it. The title cut TERRA FIRMA and NEXT BEND IN THE RIVER are captivating. Every song on this CD is strong. A definite keeper.

When I got my copy of The Buckinghams newly released TERRA FIRMA CD, I couldn't wait to get my hands on a CD player to hear it. What a journey for your ears, harmonies abound everywhere on this recording and a little something for everyone, from young to old. On the first cut NO TURNING BACK says it all on where this band wants to go. An excellent a capella version of their #1 hit KIND OF A DRAG brings you back to the 60's with a 90's twist. 99.9 is a sexy sensual song with an acoustic guitar solo and lyrics sung in spanish. The title song TERRA FIRMA has a great mix of keyboards & lyrics. JEAN JACKET AND LACE is a fun "get up and dance" number. The remake of the Billy Joe Royal hit I KNEW YOU WHEN will keep you captivated by the strong voice of lead singer Carl Giammarese. And finally the reflective song NEXT BEND IN THE RIVER superbly wrtten by Bruce Soboroff will keep you entranced and wanting more. This could only be the beginning of more great music to come from THE BUCKINGHAMS.

I should have known by the picture of the old men clustered around the band stuff, but was swayed by the 'release' date of Nov. 1968. That will teach me to be in a hurry. These are NOT the original recordings, with Dennis Tufano on the vocals. It would appear to be a collection with the current lineup, and Carl Giammarese on vocals. Close, no cigar. $5 down the drain for the mp3 files. Next time I won'd be in such a hurry to get to work.
I suppose people don't think about the slur they cast on products for other people who know nothing about this fine group and an excellent product. Well-Old Farte-you farted!! You said it right,too. You were in too big a hurry to get it right. I am just sorry you had to cast such a pall on a good recording-and an excellent group -who by the way have played in DC for the last two Inaugral balls!! 'Terra Firma' is not a greatest Hits package.
Anyone who is a Bucks fan needs to visit their official website and realize this is a group that has gone forward, not just revelling in their old music, but forging a new sound-while preserving faithful renditions of their own hits and the hits of the sixties that fit their own 'bag'. 'Terra Firma' was a step in the direction of a new sound and a good solid project. The guys-with founding members Carl and Nick-redid their classic "Kind of a Drag" in an accapella version. They did an outstanding job with Joe South's "I Knew You When". "I Think About You","World Without Love" and "Next Bend In The River" harken back to the band's r n b roots. All the songs have a modern beat and sound to them and the production is good.
The Buckinghams are one of the few groups touring from the sixties who have recorded brand new songs and mix the new with the old. As much as I love the Grass Roots, they could stand to cut some new songs. You also need to check out the Bucks latest projects-the Christmas album and 'Reaching Back'.
'Terra firma ' is not a great album-but it does have a lot of good moments. If you haven't heard their newest music,I suggest you get a copy of this-and also 'Reaching Back'. Also, even though Dennis is not the lead singer anymore, Carl sounds a lot like Dennis and does a great job.
If you enjoyed the original Buckinghams with Dennis Tufano on lead vocals don't expect anything close to that with this conglomeration. The group sound has been converted into a Holiday Inn lounge act and the remake of "Kind of A Drag" is mediocre at best.
I can't believe all the glowing reviews that have been posted here. Either I have no taste for 60s pop or the reviewers are all related to the group members.
