Product Description
Together with composer Jim Steinman, burly rocker Meat Loaf created one of the most epic albums ever produced: 1977's 'Bat Out of Hell'. This documentary chronicles its recording, with producer Todd Rundgren, Steinman, and, of course, Meat himself, offering insights into its often troubled production. Archive footage, meanwhile, demonstrates how the band managed to translate the album's multi-tracked excess into the live arena.

For some reason, I had also always assumed that Meat Loaf had a string of successful albums; this was NOT the case. "Bat Out Of Hell" was indeed a smash success. But there was a kind of void after that. In fact, his next album, in 1981, did very poorly. This led to Meat Loaf filing for bankruptcy, which I also didn't know! In fact, he was somewhat in financial limbo until the release of "Bat Out Of Hell 2", several decades later.
He is most definitely a fascinating guy, and clearly very talented. His on-stage performances are simply spectacular. He obviously put his heart and soul into every song, and every musical gesture. It must have been stunning to see him perform live, at his highest peak, in the late 1970s. That would have been mind blowing.
All in all, if you don't already know a lot about Meat Loaf's life, aspirations, artistic expressions, career, and personal highs and lows, this is a must-see video. You will also learn a good deal of vital information about his talented partner(s), and about producer Todd Rundgren, who is a brilliant talent on his own. This was all quite an eye-opener for me. This is definitely recommended viewing.
