Lowest level Sins of the Father?

Discussion

Firstly, I’d like to clarify that I am not saying that I am the lowest level CB to have completed Sins of the Father. I am simply asking what the lowest level completion is?

I just completed this quest last night on my 20 def pure at lvl 73 CB. It was my last quest/miniquest to completely fill my Quest Log given my defense level restriction. That being said, this was clearly the hardest boss for me to kill. I am no slouch when it comes to PvM content (although I am certainly not the best). On this account, I completed Jad at 52 combat and Song of the Elves at 63 combat. Once I get a T-Bow (still very far from this) and higher CB stats, I fully expect to attempt Inferno as well.

What makes this boss the most difficult for me at a low level, comes threefold.

1. Firstly, you cannot prayer flick this boss to negate damage. Throughout the first phase of the fight, even with protect from Mage, damage is registered very frequently at low defense. It does not sound like much, but these constant small ticks (between 1 and 8, sometimes 12 with the boss’s “Blood Buff”) certainly add up with low defense and lowish HP. This constant damage ramps up even more in the second phase. I’ve faced similar problems before with the Fragment of Seren, however Seren’s damage nuke is proportional based on your total HP. This means, higher defense/HP didn’t matter as much in Song of the Elves.

2. Secondly, with my character having low attack and low crush bonus, the Blisterwood Flail hits very infrequently. Even at low strength the Flail would pack a hard punch, however the problem was actually getting any damage in the first place. I would often hit five or six 0's in a row before finally getting any damage in.

3. Thirdly, RNG is real. Not only is your damage very RNG, so is the boss’s damage to you, so is the boss’s special attack phase, and so is the entire second phase of the fight. When you fight the boss during the first phase, every 8-10 attacks he will initiate a special attack. This special attack is either a damage dealing blood bubble (that can hurt the boss as well as you), an explosive bloodveld pet, or a nuke that can only be negated by turning away. Being lowish strength, I would often rely on the blood bubbles to do damage to the boss. However, considering that these special attacks were mostly random in their order, the blood bubbles cannot be relied upon too heavily. This RNG continues into the second phase where lightning continually strikes the ground around the boss.

All this being said, I wonder what the actual lowest level completion for Sins of the Father is/could be. Firstly, certain stats are required to do this quest. 50 Attack is necessary to wield the Blisterwood Flail and 49 Magic is required to start the quest. Furthermore, the previous quest chain gives 4,600 defense XP, meaning that at least 20 defense is also required. The required stats being said, I would assume that at least 43 prayer and around 70-75 strength would be necessary too. The boss would shred too hard without protection prayers and your damage output would be too low without a least mid level strength.

TLDR/CONCLUSION:

With 50 Attack, 70 Strength, 20 Defense, 75 HP, and 43 Prayer, you would be 68 CB. So I would reckon that the lowest possible Sins of the Father completion would be between 67-70. Thoughts? Do you think Rendi will make a video on this one, like he did for Song of the Elves?

Here are my stats and setup for finishing the quest at 73 CB. I did pre-pot before the fight as well. It took me around 15ish attempts, I would guess.

You beat him with way worse stats and equipment then me lol. Props.

Lol it was definitely hard. On the attempt that I actually completed it, I didn't miss a single tick except for being hit by lighting once (an unlucky spawn for the lighting strike) and I still only finished it with 1 sip of Super Restore and 2 sips of Super Combat left.

Why 20 def?

I have seen 1, 43, 45, and 60... but why 20?

u/John_Zolty avatar

I was a 13 def pure until last week because I wanted to be able to equip a Slayer Helm and because I wanted Magic Secateurs (you get 2k defense xp from Nature Spirit). Both 13 def pures and 20 def pures are essentially low CB level PvM accounts that can do OKAY in PvP. But, honestly I just like the challenge of it and I felt 1 defense has been overdone. Also, 20 def is the literal minimum defense to complete Sins of the Father because of the previous quest chain xp.

my combat level is higher than yours but I almost beat him with 60 att and 55 str but that was my luckiest attempt. I didn't get hit by any of the spec attacks first round and no lightning for phase 2 however I ran out of food and couldn't tank the damage got him down to 42 hp on the second phase. I have 70 def and used blessed hide.

stats: 60 att, 55 str, 70 def, 70 range, 85 mage, 67 hp, 51 pray, and 81 cmbt

Im just missing 6 quest for cape this is one of them.

u/John_Zolty avatar

Yeah, the reason why I struggled is because my defense is 20. The damage that I did to the boss wouldn't be as much of an issue if I wasn't taking consistent damage as well. On my last attempt, if I recall correctly, I only got hit by the lightning in the second phase 1 time and I still only finished it with 38 hp left. That's because even with tick perfect movement and avoiding all of his specials, his basic attacks just slashed me apart.

This is impressive. I had similar stats (higher attack and def), and struggled.

The rng on the flail was the biggest deciding factor for me. I kept getting the boss low but just couldn’t hit and would have to TP out after running out of food.

Then when I did beat it, I felt like I had a lot of supplies left.

u/John_Zolty avatar

Yeah, it is a super RNG fight. That was my biggest struggle too. Before I finally beat it, I had gotten the boss below 100hp on the second phase at least 5 times.

I think there are a few upgrades you could make that would make it significantly easier, but I don't know how much they would push it down. Ring of suffering would provide a lot of mage defense and some recoil damage. Decorative ranged top would give you 20 more mage defense too. You could also use manacles for the extra max hit. It's also possible that defense reducing specs work on him, since items like the sgs can register damage. I doubt it would work, but it's worth testing.

u/John_Zolty avatar

Yeah this is true. I did see that recoils didn't work on him, but I wonder about the ring of suffering. All of theses questions make me wonder if Rendi will look into this. Hope he does

u/reinfleche avatar

Oh if recoils don't work I would just stick with berserker (although you should imbue it).

u/John_Zolty avatar

Yeah I'm working on imbuing everything right now. I have my slayer helm and salve ammy imbued atm.

I also did try the fight with decorative range top and studded leather top, but eventually chose the initiate for the prayer bonus. It allowed me to drop one super restore for an extra brew and helped me tank a bit better in the second phase. The second phase was much harder than the first phase for me. Not only was the lightning super random, but he hit extremely fast with his melee.

Working on the last requirements for this on my 20 defense Ironman right now, currently 62 combat but I’ll be attempting it at around 65, currently 40hp and 83 strength, wish me luck:))

u/John_Zolty avatar

Let me know how it goes! GL man

Wanting to attempt this on my 20 def iron acc with very similar stats. You gave me hope. Well done.

Edited

Hey good luck man! Wishing you the best! It can get frustrating if you don't get good hits or if he shreds you with his basic attacks

There are also some upgrades you can get that I didn't have at the time. Imbued Zerker Ring and Spiked Manacles namely

dang, i beat it at level 76! good job m8

u/John_Zolty avatar

Still super impressive. Ugh, I want to know what the lowest level to complete it is lol

Do you think strength is more important than attack in this fight?
Seems to me that the biggest problem for most people is that they don't hit him consistently enough.
Would have thought that 70 attack and 50 strength was better than 50 attack and 70 strength.

u/John_Zolty avatar

Honestly I'm not really sure. That was definitely my biggest problem. The flail certainly hits hard when it does hit, so in theory I could totally see attack being better. I'll have to redo it on an alt at some point
