Audre Slater Obituary

March 28, 1930 - October 20, 2022 Audre Slater passed away in the early morning of October 20, 2022, at the age of 92. Beloved wife to screenwriter Barney Slater (predeceased) and then to George Solymar; loving mother to Tandi Slater (predeceased) and Cat Alison Slater.
Audre lived an extraordinary life. She followed her brother to Los Angeles from Coney Island, New York at the age of 15 in 1945 and never looked back. She met the love of her life, Barney Slater when she was waitressing at Canter's Delicatessen, and they married three months later. After graduating from UCLA, Audre began investing in Los Angeles real estate. She used her profits to give back to the arts in Los Angeles. She lost Barney in 1978 to a hit and run driver but persevered without him. In 1983 Audre married George Solymar. They were together for several years.
Audre was honored to be named President of the Los Angeles Philharmonic Business Council in 2004 and made it her mission to raise money for the arts. In 2005 she expanded her work at the Phil to include the Los Angeles Opera and other smaller arts organizations in LA. Audre founded the Los Angeles Philanthropic Committee for the Arts (LAPCA) in 2005 and for 10 years hosted musical salons at the Dorothy Chandler to raise money for a wide range of artistic endeavors in Los Angeles. Donations included the funding of the Music Library for the Los Angeles Opera.
Audre was a fiercely independent, powerful, and generous woman. She had a sharp and witty sense of humor. As she always liked to say about her close friends, she had snap, crackle, and pop. She will be missed.
Audre will be buried Friday, Oct 28, 2022, at 1:00 pm at Eden Memorial Park 11500 Sepulveda Blvd, Mission Hills, California 91345. A celebration of her life will take place early in 2023.
