Cross lost a bit of his touch, but it's still very nice
Christopher Cross isn't a genius, so I'd say that, after two magnificent albums, the most probable way was down. And so it is, but Every Turn of the World is still pretty pleasant. It's worse than the previous ones because it's way more dependent of synths instead of those more unique arrangements, and it's less varied in terms of melody and rhythm, which are mostly used in a formulaic way to create energic and fast songs you can dance to, it's not so sentimental, passionate and moody as Christopher Cross and Another Page. Those were full of emotion and imagery, while this one is fun, but none of the tracks are on the same level as almost any other on those. However, it certainly is fun and entertaining, despite the lacking of same artistic quality Cross maintained years before. A stepback? Yes. Still good? Also yes.TRACKS RANKED:

With "every turn of the world" the sun rises and goes down again in the evening. Everyday the same. It's a daily routine. And like a daily routine the songs appear to me on this album. The first song (and titel track) makes me think: '[Yawn] ... good morning. A new day (record) started. Let's see what it will be like.' The next one I think: '[Yawn] ... good morning. Another day (record) started. Hope it will be better than yesterday.' And so it goes on and on and on ...
Only the two ballads - both placed at the end of each side - are a bitt better but doesn't come close to the ones I love from his first album.
Christopher Cross himself sings that
there's one more chance
with every turn of the world
but he can't take it. He's got 10 chances to give us more of his wonderful melancholic songs - and failed.
All there is, is AOR radio songwriting in perfection. What a pity!

Why didn't I give this a listen earlier in my Chris Cross phase? I stopped with his 2nd album and should have moved along to his 3rd. A great album!! The only disappointing track was Don't Say Goodbye. The rest of the tracks are fantastic. If you liked his first two albums give this a go! You won't be disappointed, and there are more high energy numbers. This is not a ballad heavy album at all. I would definitely recommend this to any Chris Cross fan.
