Punahou School has never helped me or others I know atttending this school. This school caused the mental and physical health of students to decline and was not academically challenging enough. I have always thought I was a terrible person due to this school. This school also has a history of sexual assault.
Punahou was really such a blessing to me and my family. They have given me such great opportunities that I would not be able to get elsewhere. I felt so welcomed. The spirit of aloha runs deep within the school. Thank you Punahou!
Punahou School is highly regarded for its academic excellence, rich history, and commitment to cultivating well-rounded individuals. Founded in 1841, the school has a long-standing tradition of providing students with a challenging and supportive learning environment. Punahou offers a diverse range of academic programs, as well as a wide variety of extracurricular activities and athletic programs. Additionally, Punahou has a strong sense of community, with a dedicated faculty and staff who are committed to helping students succeed both inside and outside of the classroom. All of these factors contribute to making Punahou School a great educational institution.
My time at Punahou School was enriching and all it is told to be. Punahou provided me with a diverse and amazing learning environment. The rigorous academic curriculum and extracurricular involvement through clubs and sports, fostered my personal growth. I engaged in many activities, from academic clubs like the Esports club to sports teams like the Bowling team, which allowed me to develop leadership skills, teamwork, and time management. The supportive community of teachers and peers really helped me to excel and I knew they were always there for me. Beyond academics, Punahou instilled in me values of community, integrity, and persistence, shaping me into a well-rounded individual prepared for the future. My experience at Punahou School has had a lasting impact on my life and I will never forget it.
I love Punahou school for their alertness, safety, support, and academic programs. Above all, Punahou provides ample amounts of resources for students, while they have some things to work on. One, Punahou is definitely a version of education monopoly, and could contribute more to various school connected extra curricular programs, and the food! Though, this school is a great fit for creative and ambition students, faculty, staff, and parents!
Punahou was an amazing school. I started Punahou in kindergarten and had always loved the school. The rich history combined with the school spirit and academics makes for an ideal school. The best part of the school is the community and it's community engagement. Every year the high school Junior at Punahou plan the famous Punahou Carnival which is open to the public and raises money for Punahou financial aid. The carnival brings in everybody from all over the island. There are rides, student run games, food booths, and entertainment. The teachers at Punahou are amazing. They are all very knowledgeable and kind people. The worst part about Punahou is the tuition. Every year the tuition increases which can be really hard for some families. I have had friends who had to change schools because they could not afford the tuition. Luckily my mom worked at Punahou, so I received free tuition. If that were not the case I would of had to change schools myself.
The best thing about Punahou is that the students are diverse. We have future athletes, politicians, artists, doctors, businessmen/businesswomen, etc. Punahou does it's best to prepare us for the real world. Since it is such a large high school, it is hard for them to give support to the students, in other words, they refuse to "hold your hand." They want to make you responsible for everything, which can be good and bad. Many of their teachers are inspiring and dedicated to their job. However, at every school, there will always be a handful of teachers who many of the students have a hard time learning from. I have gotten to know a few teachers just based on other students and their complaints about them. Overall, Punahou is a school that tests us in many ways, making sure the real world is survivable.
At Punahou School, I have always felt like I had resources and opportunities. Whenever I need help in the present or past, I always know who to go to and that I can rely on them. My deans always make sure that we are on the right track, but also make it clear to us that we have to put in our own work. Throughout my time at Punahou School, I've been able to learn about myself because I've grown. I've grown through extracurriculars, people, classes, etc. There are many ways for us students to build connections with the people who surround us at school. When I was new to Punahou, it was a hard transition during covid, but I enjoyed it. Since then I've gone through nothing but growth. Everyday I'm excited to succeed in what I'm doing and learn more about myself as a student and person.
My overall experience with Punahou School is good. The teachers are passionate about their job and you can tell that they have the students best interest in mind. The facility knows how to be helpful when guiding you throughout your educational journey such as internships, college apps, and college scholarships. From this school I can confidently say I am prepared for college although I don't doubt that there will be challenges. But, if I could make changes I would like to see the school be more proactive about trash and sitting areas because so many students are left sitting in hallways or staircases because there aren't enough benches and leave trash in these areas making our campus look not well kept.
I like the sports team because they are very good at every single sport. I want to go to UH Manoa and West Oahu. I feel very safe at Punahou School because everyone is nice. I like food at punahou like pizza bites and sloppy joe. W teachers because they speak nice.
My educational experience at Punahou was very positive and have made life long friendships with both fellow students and faculty. I'm very proud and appreciate of being a Punahou Alum.
I have been at Punahou since Kindergarten, and throughout my thirteen years at Punahou, I have learned a lot more than just college prep. Punahou has taught me outside-of-the-box thinking, creativity, collaborative skills, Hawaiian History, and even some survival skills. Punahou goes above what is normally expected from a school, and my experiences have always been positive. If you asked me when I was six, or asked me now, I would have always said I love school and Punahou.
Punahou is an incredible school with a vast network of resources and a strong community. I have felt privileged to attend. I think the diversity of opportunities is unlike most other schools, with a strong study abroad program, a huge variety of clubs, and a robust academic program. As someone with dietary restrictions, the food has not always been favorable, but some really enjoy it. I also will say that I wish my class was more unified as a whole and that some faculty and student behavior on campus is not always the best. Litter, bullying, and certain staff bring the school down a little bit. Additionally, there is a high level of competition between students, however, that is fairly typical of high caliber schools. Overall, I would say that my experience has been fantastic, absolutely worth it, and the majority of students and faculty are amazing, but the school definitely has its issues.
Punahou School is a private, co-educational, college preparatory school in Honolulu, Hawaii. More than 3,700 students attend the school from kindergarten through 12th grade. The school is diverse and inclusive with students coming from a multitude of backgrounds. Punahou has a variety of extra-curricular programs including sports, music, and so on. In terms of academics, students are pushed a lot, and many of the courses are difficult at the school. Some teachers are harsh teachers and value grades/test scores rather than student character and improvement.
Punahou school is an amazing place for people who love being involved in a community. The school itself really values the community aspect and strives to implement a sense of community in any way possible. The math department at Punahou, in the academy specifically, is not the strongest department, but they still over a variety of courses in order for your child to learn and grow.
I had a great time at Punahou, they helped to make me a well-rounded student as well as prepare me for college. Through academics, sport and the arts, I was able to receive a great education, meet lifelong friends and prepare myself for the next phases of life.
I think the diversity at Punahou is awesome. They're very inclusive. The academic courses are also very challenging and rigorous. A change I would like to see is more class bonding activities. Our classes aren't very close with each other.
My time at Punahou was unique, and honestly a lifestyle. I've been at Punahou for 13 years, and I'm so glad that I was accepted as a kindergartener. The experiences and opportunities we get are extremely fruitful. For example I've been traveling with the school, gone to camp, ran a carnival, and so much more. My closest friends are family. Our community because it truly exemplifies the Aloha spirit in Hawai'i. However, because Punahou is a private, prestigious school, it does come with its challenges. The pressure to do well here mostly comes from peers. As much as the community is tight, I find myself comparing myself to others. Everyone here has top grades, a varsity athlete, and an artistic prodigy. Sometimes it is hard to feel proud of your own accomplishments. The competitive atmosphere pushes me to do better, and although this can be hard at times, I am grateful because I feel like this has made me a stronger person.
Punahou School had the greatest impact in shaping the person I am today. Not only did I receive a world class liberal arts education, but I developed a strong sense of who I am and what mattered most to me. I was exposed to a broad range of courses and subject matter, and was able to hone my interests to what would ultimately be a career in communications. I also developed interpersonal skills and a deep appreciation for working in teams and collaborating with others to solve complex problems. Punahou instilled in me a love for learning that has lasted a lifetime and gave me the confidence to take on new challenges and opportunities.
I am proud to be a graduate of Punahou School. I started at Punahou in Kindergarten and took advantage of all the opportunities that were offered to me: I was in the band, I played multiple sports, I joined clubs, took AP courses. But above all, I met my best friends at this school and became part of an incredible community that will last a lifetime. The teachers were amazing, always there to support me both academically and socially. When I entered the work force, having Punahou School listed as my high school on my resume made a huge difference and opened many doors for me. I am so thankful for everything Punahou gave me.
