How can I link an existing reservation to my account?
The company I work for booked a flight for me with a travel agency. I have the confirmation number / record locator and I'd like to add this flight to my flights on my account, so I can link it with my Aadvantage account.
When I check my trip at https://www.aa.com/reservation/view/find-your-trip, I don't see any options to link the flight to my account as I've seen other airlines do, but I did see an option to add/edit passenger information. I tried adding my Aadvantage number to the passenger information but it says: Frequent flyer number not found. Please try again. I've tried several times without success.
I'm 100% sure my Aadvantage number is correct, as I see it on my account summary. Is there something I might be missing?

I'll try that as well. Thanks.
Are you logged into your account pulling up the flight? One common issue was using letter O instead of the number 0.
I'm logged into my account when pulling up the flight, yes. I haven't tried to look it up without being logged in, but I'll try it asap.
Regarding the letter O instead of the number 0, I'm copying and pasting the number from my account summary, so it should be the correct one.
OK so I actually figured out how to do this another way. I am kicking myself for not documenting it as I did it, but I was logged in.
I just remember selecting an option from the left side menu while logged in. It wasn't phrased "import existing trip" like it should have been, but it was something I knew to click on.
I can't find it now! But my trip is in there now. It was like "add your AAdvantage account" rather than "add your trip", if that makes sense. Sorry I can't remember more! :(

go to this website, then find the trip using the last name and 6-letter trip code. Then add the frequent flyer program number.
this is how to do this. Just worked for me after booking through capital one portal, its now added to my AA Account.
Did you ever figure it out? I'm having the same problem.
Nope, sorry. The time for my flight came up and I was never able to do it. Maybe try calling their customer service line.
Having same issue. :(
Same issue. Other airlines make it easy to add a trip to a frequent flyer account (or do it automatically based on name/bday). My work books my flights but they don't always put the number in. Would be very easy to do that myself if AA allowed it.
Just adding this as I'm having the same issue and have managed to successfully link both. When you check your Advantage number it will state #123456 remove the # and just add the number under edit passenger information on your "Manage my trip section".
Hope this helps someone as was one of the top hits on my search.
Thanks, this did it for me. To summarize:
Make sure you're not logged in
Go to "Manage trips / Check in" (while NOT logged in)
Look up your trip
Scroll way down to the "Passengers" section
Click on "Add / edit passenger informationAdd / edit information" for the passenger with the Advantage account you want to link
Fill in the "Loyalty number" field (without the #)
Save
Now log into your account and the trip should show up.

This WORKED!
Thanks. I will try this. I signed up my mom for it. Doing an international flight requires the passport, so I will do this once I get it from her.
I tried this..but when i try to put in my information, it is asking for my Redress# (I don't have one) and won't let me save all of the additional info (passport, contact, etc)

You have time.unselect the country it has pre-selected both both of these. Took me 15 minutes to figure this out.
Moving polkadotninja up in this thread, the key is to be logged out on AA website first to find the trip and then you can add your details (AA number or KTN). See their response for the step by step!
Any other airline this would be easy been trying for half an hour I can get to my confirmation but cant login to my AA Advantage from their to link it. Why so hard. I want my trip in my account so I get points for it. I am paying for it so why can't I get it.
Had 3 flights that werent linked and thanks to polkadotninjas breakdown on how to do it all 3 are now showing.
-find your trip online -enter your usernme/record locator -edit trip details to add advantage number
I used the chat and this is what they suggested; it worked for me!
