United Kingdom The Beast in the Cellar (Tigon Collection) (88 Films)

Quote:
When soldiers stationed in the local community are mauled to death in the local woods, a wild cat is thought to be the culprit. However, two sisters, begin to suspect that their brother who has been locked in their cellar for 30 years may be responsible. This creepy early 70s horror starring Beryl Reid (Psychomania) and Flora Robson (Eye of the Devil, Fragment of Fear) carries a brooding tension that is both claustrophobic and horrible. A bonafide cult classic.

Oh yes! I caught this somewhere in the early 80s on Sky Channels "The Deadly Earnest Horror Show".

Good times!

I havent seen this in decades, when I had it on PD VHS. Itll be nice to catch up with it again. I didnt realize that Tessa Wyatt is in it. I love her, because she plays Robins girlfriend/wife in Robins Nest, a spin-off from Man About the House.

I already have the Severin release but I shall double dip with this one to add to the Tigon Collection.

Will this have a new transfer or the same one as the limited Severin release?

Yes... I second this question... I just asked this over on the 88 Films thread too...

I might consider pre-ordering if this is a new transfer!

Plus the Severin artwork isn't so great...

88 Films are on to a winner using that Tigon logo.

Not a very good film but it's a great cast.

I'll be buying it.

You really don't. I didn't have the Tigon one but I had the Pete Walker one and it was so delicate and flimsy with the discs always falling off the foam hoop things.

Speaking of Pete, I hope we get that long-delayed box set from 88 soon; the packaging is mouth watering.

I see it's missing "Tigon Tales of Terror" 2004 featurette (26:57) from the Severin release but 88 have it on their new Blood on Satan's Claw

I think it's been around the doors on previous Tigon-related releases.

The disc holders were awful in those sets, either they didn't hold the discs or they were so tight that they cracked them. A classic example of packaging design that ignores the most important thing that every box set must do - store the discs safely.

Can anyone answer if this is a new scan or the same as the Severin one?

Watched this a couple of days ago and it looks pretty good. I still find it a terribly dull film though, but 88 films have done it proud.

What is the title on the print? I seem to recall Severin's being called just THE CELLAR.

I'm starting to question if it's terribleness might be overemphasized? Never heard of it before 88 announced it, but I might get it at some point.

To be fair, it's a pretty good cast, it's hokey and not terribly well made.

There's still something enjoyable about it though for me anyway.

I also bought it to support 88 Films and I do like the Tigon story.
