Now, with his reputation in shambles, Modi is forced to move in with his sister Mallory until he can figure out a way to redeem himself and earn a paycheck. An unexpected opportunity emerges when he's hired by a quirky and diverse group of idealists -- hardworking Griselda, cab driver Hakim, crazy-rich siblings Mei Lin and Jun Ho, American-raised Moldovan Brady, and dive bar DJ Drazen -- to help them achieve their dream: citizenship. Daniel D'Addario Variety As a depiction of activism and making change, the promising Sunnyside pilot makes a strong case that it begins with one's neighbors, and builds out a neighborhood well worth watching. Sep 26, 2019 Full Review Mike Hale New York Times The pilot has some of the loose rhythm of "Parks and Recreation" but not much of the cleverness. Garrett's shallowness is shallowly drawn, and the study group he reluctantly takes on feels like a holding cell of immigrant clichés. Sep 26, 2019 Full Review Sulagna Misra AV Club If Sunnyside leans into spontaneity and surprises-just as Community quickly turned away from Britta and Jeff to focus on the most chemistry-laden couple on the show, Troy and Abed-then it could evolve into a show worth sticking with. Rated: B Sep 25, 2019 Full Review Markie Robson-Scott The Arts Desk Sunnyside, named after an ethnically diverse district of Queens, is forced, shallow and only mildly funny. Rated: 3/5 Mar 17, 2020 Full Review Kristi Turnquist Oregonian It's also well intentioned, but on the earnest side. Nov 7, 2019 Full Review Marty Brown Common Sense Media Ambitious immigration comedy has charm, diverse cast. Rated: 3/5 Oct 22, 2019 Full Review Read all reviews

Audience Member Absolutely hilarious. It was a mistake to cancel this show Rated 5 out of 5 stars 01/09/23 Full Review Audience Member It's bad. Real real bad. I got a couple eps in but then I couldn't watch anymore. Rated 1.5 out of 5 stars 01/09/23 Full Review Audience Member This show is actually hilarious. The two twins are incredibl Rated 5 out of 5 stars 01/09/23 Full Review Audience Member Boring, not funny at all. Cheesy hack "comedy". Rated 0.5 out of 5 stars 01/09/23 Full Review Audience Member Great to see a show with diversity, a current topic with comedic overtones, yet seems to stay clear of being political. I'm interested to see the characters develop. Seems like it could become a multicultural version of that old (but great) show Cheers. Kal Penn always delivers off-beat comedy with his matter of fact style. Rated 4 out of 5 stars 01/09/23 Full Review Audience Member It's a feel good comedy that deals with immigration and friendship. The episodes get funnier as the show finds its feet and the ensemble cast is really good. Definitely worth sticking around for.
