2002年本科毕业后，尹烨加入华大集团（以下简称：华大）子公司——北京华大吉比爱生物技术有限公司，先后从事体外诊断试剂研发、产品注册、生产管理、质量管理、市场营销等工作，在生物产品研发、生产、质控、申报注册及生物技术临床应用推广等方面有丰富的经验，主持申报数十项体外诊断试剂及多项专利，对于GMP/IVD/ISO系列质量管理体系有深刻理解。
2003年春，尹烨作为“非典型性肺炎”（SARS）早期诊断科研攻关的主要参与者之一，在华大高效完成SARS病毒测序和获得诊断蛋白之后，率领团队在24小时内即完成了SARS诊断试剂盒研发及申报材料的准备，并顺利获得了国药局（现食药总局）的审批。随后，华大及时将30万人份SARS检测试剂盒无偿捐赠给国家非典防治指挥部 [12]，对疫情的防控起到了关键性作用。
2009年，尹烨调入华大集团深圳总部，负责基因组学及生物信息学全球范围内的产业推广，并先后出任华大基因科技合作事业部总裁、全球基因组平台负责人、华大生命科学研究院助理院长、华大集团首席运营官、华大医学执行总裁等职。
2010年起，他开始组建华大全球营销团队，打造华大全球化科研、产业平台，完成了华大的全球化布局。期间，尹烨主持或参与了上百个国际基因组合作项目，包括“千种动植物基因组计划”“百万人重测序计划”“蒙古族人基因组计划”等大型项目，在Nature系列、Science、PNAS等国际顶级学术期刊发表近60篇论文（详见主要论文部分） [13]，并促成华大与全球生命科学相关领域的机构建立良好的合作关系，为推动基因组学研究、分子育种、医疗健康、环境能源等领域的科研发展做出重要贡献。
2013年，尹烨作为核心成员，参与完成华大对美国上市公司Complete Genomics的全资收购。
2014年，尹烨出任华大医学执行总裁，全面贯彻“5P医学”理念，降低出生缺陷及减少肿瘤等重大疾病对人类健康的危害，推动全球基因检测的临床应用发展。
2017年7月14日，深圳华大基因股份有限公司在创业板上市，成为中国基因科技第一股。尹烨任深圳华大基因股份有限公司CEO，率领团队积极推动前沿生物技术和基因组学研究成果的产业化应用，向全球顶尖的医疗机构、科研机构、大学、药厂、育种公司等提供完整的基因组学解决方案，为临床行为提供诊断、干预和治疗依据，为生命科学及医学创新提供技术和研究服务，和团队一起致力于使华大基因成为全球基因科技、临床应用的行业领导者 [14]。
曾任华大科技总裁、华大集团首席运营官（COO）、华大医学总裁。“非典”科研攻关主要参与者之一，曾当选最年轻的中国杰出质量人 [6]、华大基因全球化布局推动者、华大基因收购CG项目核心成员、率领华大基因成功登陆创业板 [7-8]。2018年1月，他在JP Morgan会议上率先发布个人全基因组测序正式进入百元美金时代、同时发布解密所有5000种哺乳动物基因组的“生命周期表计划” [9]。他心系公益事业 [10]，组建面向罕见病群体的机构“同病相联”，和团队一起成立救助遗传病的“华基金”“光基金” [11]。开设“天方烨谈”电台节目，受邀出席WIRED、TEDx、一席、中国企业家论坛等媒体活动，为大众讲述“听得懂的生命科学”。

公益实践

在尹烨的带领下，华大基因一直积极践行改善人类健康的社会责任，心系公益事业。他与团队发起“生命周期表”等项目及活动 [15]，长期支持中国罕见病发展中心等罕见病专业组织，带领团队发起并组建“同并相联”网站，以期打造成为罕见病、遗传病诊治与交流第一平台 [16]。与团队多次发起罕见病救助项目，致力于推动对罕见病、血液疾病的关爱与救助 [10] [17]。
尹烨个人亦带头捐款发起成立公益基金——华基金，永久免费为重症地贫患儿提供HLA配型；牵头发起成立“爱之光眼病基因检测” [18]“光基金”，意在免费提供基因检测救助先天性眼疾的患者 [19]；发起成立“狂犬病科研基金”等专项基金 [20]，旨在推进狂犬病治疗的临床研究。
尹烨积极参与基因科普工作，多次受邀在WIRED、TEDx、一席、中国企业家论坛、亚布力企业家论坛 [21]、中欧EMBA、长江EMBA、北大EMBA [22]、湖南卫视《我是未来》、混沌研习社、黑马营 [23]、科技部人才中心、深圳市市民大讲堂等平台授课，并在喜马拉雅FM [24]、懒人听书等新媒体开设“天方烨谈”基因科普栏目，通过多种渠道和途径、上百集节目、上百篇文章，讲大众听得懂的生命科学，宣传、推广与广大人民群众相关的基因技术与知识。
