Enshrine the Bodhisattva Kannon

It's about a 10-minute walk from Renbo Station.
A Soto Zen temple founded in 1645. The principal image is the Bodhisattva Kannon. The main hall was built in the 1800s and is made of wood with a tiled roof. In front of the temple gate is a hall that enshrines the guardian deity Sugaya Fudoson and the mountain god. This Sugaya Fudoson was enshrined in 1907 from Sugaya Fudoson in Rikuzen.

新寺にある曹洞宗寺院です

４月中旬の桜の満開の時期にあわせて、お花見がてら新寺界隈の寺院めぐりをした際に訪問しました。
仙台駅東口からは、ゆっくり歩いて１５分ほどかかります。
右隣にある「林松院」や「東秀院」と同じく曹洞宗の寺院です。
古いお堂や鐘楼など見ごたえたっぷりで、歴史を感じるお寺でした。

仙台駅の東側にお寺が集まったエリアがありますが、そのうちの一つです。1645年に開創された曹洞宗の寺院です。このあたりは曹洞宗が多いですね。ここに来る前に何か所か寺院を訪問済みでしたが、こちらは庭なども含めて地味でした。

菅谷不動堂があります。

寺院が密集する宮城県仙台市若林区新寺にある曹洞宗寺院です。
隣接して仙台七福神の「弁財天」の林香院があります。

境内には菅谷不動堂のお堂がありました。寺の鎮守として、利府にある菅谷不動尊の分霊を勧請したものとありました。
女性の守護神として祀られ、特にお産の神として古来より出産の無事を祈念するために、ここに安置される小枕を1個お借りして産婦の枕の下に入れて安産を願い、無事出産出来たら、お礼として一つ心を加えて二つ枕となし、21日目にお返しして、御礼の祈りをささげるという由緒のある神様だそうです。

菅谷不動堂の奥に洞林寺はあります。民家のような本堂があり、本堂脇の鐘楼には小さな釣鐘が並んでいました。

親戚のお墓参りで訪問してきました

毎年お盆の時期は長期海外旅行で不在がお決まりのため、お墓参りはお彼岸がメイン。
でも、今年は主人が入院中のため、運転手も兼ねて実家の両親と一緒に母方の親戚の方々のお墓参りへ行ってきました。
新寺にある「洞林寺」さんは以前訪問した際は遠い親戚のお墓があるとは知らなかった。。（苦笑）

お墓は一番奥の方でしたが、山門から本堂までの間に立派な建物が多く、両親に置いていかれたほど。

この辺りは特に大きくて立派な曹洞宗寺院が多いので、寺院巡りがお好きな方は是非。

「今年も咲いたね」
近くにいた老夫婦がそうつぶやくのが聞こえました。
決して枝ぶりが美しいとは言えませんし、大きさに感動することもありません。しかし、風雪に耐えてきたらしい老木が精いっぱい花を咲かせる姿を見て私も笑顔になりました。

菅谷不動尊

新寺地区の曹洞宗の寺。通りから入ってすぐの空地には立派なお堂が建っていて、菅谷不動尊。明治40年に陸前国菅谷から分霊したという経緯が詳しく説明されていました。中門を入ると改めて境内。中央に桜の古木がありますが、痛々しい姿でした。

仙台は伊達氏の武士という影響か、城下の寺院も禅宗の曹洞宗の寺院が多いようです。この洞林寺もそんな一寺ですが、つくりがいかにも禅寺という趣です。
