The Portal Tapes (Compilation)

‘The Portal tapes’ was released in 2012, although the material on it was recorded in 1995.

Back then the band that recorded the songs was a project named ‘Portal’ with the Cynic members Paul Masdival, Sean Reinert and Jason Gobel but here together with Singer/Keyboardist Aruna Abrams and bassist Chris Kringel.
These recordings were never released to a wider audience until 2012, where Cynic decided to release it under their name.

Not only the line-up, but also the music is quite different from Cynics album ‘Focus’ that they published just the year before in 1994.

The project was inspired by the artwork that also was used as cover; a painting by Robert Venosa.
