The Miesbach District includes two pristine lakes within its borders, the huge Lake Tegernsee to the west and the smaller Lake Schliersee to the east. Vacationers travel south from Munich in all four seasons to experience the region’s many outdoor opportunities.

Towns & Villages in the Miesbach District

On the east shore of the Tegernsee you will find the resort town of the same name, where skiing, swimming, mountain biking, fine dining and even hot-air balloon rides draw year-round crowds. To the south is Rottach-Egern, a traditional escape for painters, poets and composers of an earlier era and now for tourists who appreciate its elegant shops and cozy restaurants.

In Bad Wiessee on the western shore, you can soak in the healing sulfur waters of the area’s most popular spa. To the north, stop in Gmund am Tegernsee for a boat ride at the source of the Mangfall River.

The health resort known as Schliersee sits on the eastern shore of its lake by the same name. Extensive sports and leisure facilities here will delight you in both summer and winter.

The district seat called Miesbach is not on a lake, but it has existed for more than ten centuries as a mining center and destination for pilgrims. Come here for relaxation, from home-style Bavarian cooking to top-class theater and orchestras. :-)
