About the author
Born and raised in Oklahoma, Phyllis is the youngest of six. After losing her father at age seven and her mother at age ten, Phyllis was taken in, and raised by her oldest sister. Phyllis started writing poems at the age of sixteen. Then as a young adult she stop writing poems. One day she was reading her daily devotion; John 9:1-3 and she stopped and mediated on that verse... "If no one was sick how could Jesus do the miracle of healing?" and out of that thought, came the poem "IF" And she started back writing poems after seven years. Phyllis now reside in Georgia.
IF
If no one was sick,
how could Jesus do the miracle of healing.
If no one gave,
how could a harvest come back from giving.
If no one needed help,
how could God make a way out of no way.
If night never came,
how could it be the next day.
If Jesus didn't shed his blood,
how could you and I be saved.
If Lazarus had not died,
how could Jesus raise him from the grave.
If we were never in bondage,
how could we be made free.
If there were never male and female,
how could babies be.
If the heart was never broken,
how could there be a mend.
If we never needed a shoulder to cry on,
how could appreciation be for a friend.
If we never read the Bible,
how could we know his will.
If we never messed up,
how could he love us still.
If there never was a thought,
how could this poem be.
If I never wrote it down,
how would you have known me.

More women need to purchase this book!!!! Not just women, men give this book to your daughters.
Domestic abuse is not an easy topic to talk about; especially when the one speaking has been the victim. Certainly, it took courage for this author to expose how she was victimized by abuse. And it is through her journey there are lessons to be learnt. It is a good story. However, I feel the author would have given a greater presentation if each individualized character spoken their own words rather than the author telling what was said. Also, it would have helped to be more descriptive in characterization and scene. This way it will allow the reader to be in the moment. Throughout the book, this author does present an array of beautiful and inspiring poems for its readers to embrace. Overall, the author story truly opens your heart as she pours out her life experiences. It's been spoken there are life lessons to be learn; and this is one story that easily helps another.
